With that being the case, it’s time to dive into some preview articles for the respective leagues. For this article, we’ll look at prospects who could experience a breakout season.
Cam Byers | 6’5 | Dulaney ’20
Byers’ usage will increase tremendously this season after getting used to the Lions’ system last year. The team will look much different, but it’ll be in Byers’ benefit because he will be a big piece of the puzzle. The 6-foot-5 is a bruiser in the post and can be a dominant rebounder when locked in. Byers will be expected to produce double figures in scoring and rebounds in almost every game.
Jaylin Webster | 6’1 | Dulaney ’21
With some significant movement within their roster, Webster will experience an increase in his role this season. The 6-foot-1 guard had a productive summer and will likely split time both on and off the ball with backcourt mate Ryan Conway. Webster is a competitor defensively, makes good decisions with the ball in the half court or fast break and is a capable shot maker when he has time to set up.
Taylor Hickey | 5’10 | Overlea ’23
Hickey will enter his freshman season with a nice reputation as being a sniper from deep. He’ll be leaned on heavily as a scoring presence despite being a freshman. Hickey plays with a nice swagger to his game and doesn’t allow a few misses to mess with his confidence. As he matures, he could develop into a nice play maker off the dribble, but for now, just expect to see a lot of three’s being hoisted.
Rob Johnson | 6’4 | Western Tech ’20
Johnson was another prospect that caught my eye during the EBA Summer League. The 6-foot-4 forward acts as an anchor for a Western Tech team that lacks in the size department. He’s a double-double threat each time he steps on the floor and offensively, can even step out beyond the arc and hit jumpers. Tech will catch a few teams by surprise this season and it’ll start with Johnson’s ability to man the paint.
Andrew Rheubottom | 6’3 | Milford Mill ’22
Rheubottom made the move from Pikesville to Milford Mill to help further boost their chances of finishing atop of the county. The 6-foot-3 guard/wing is one of the more versatile players you’ll see in county play because of his ability to play multiple positions. He’s played in the frontcourt for much of his career, so he’s used to being an aggressive presence on the glass. He has however, developed nicely when it comes to being more of a guard and playing off the bounce. Rheubottom will make his presence felt in many ways on the box score.
