However, last Sunday’s week 5 matchups saw another 30-point scorer in Bronson Bartuch dropping 31 for his Iowa team in the Frosh/Soph League. In varsity league play, Loyola Academy’s sophomore team played up a division and was led by guard Dajour Stephens’ 23-point performance. Quite possibly the most notable performance of the day came from 2025 (7th grader) Noah Gorman, pouring in six threes on his way to 26 points in Frosh/Soph League play. VARSITY HIGHLIGHTS: Week 5
Maine East 57 Loyola Academy 54
A big win for Maine East, getting another monster game from Shiv Amir leading all scorers with 20 points coming at all three levels despite his three-point barrage last week. Teammates Jonathan Serrano and Calvin Yousif backed him up with 14 each.
Maine South 71 Downers Grove South 48
Maine South’s Casey Clark poured in 16 of his 20 points in the first half to help build an insurmountable halftime lead. Downers Grove South only managed to play their opponent even in the second half and was led by Connor Cigrand’s 14 points.
Chicago United 55 Chicago Lab U-High 53
Chicago Lab has improved each week and almost pulled off the upset over an undefeated Chicago United team. 2020 Kordell Gordon once again led Chicago United in scoring with 16 points, and was matched by Chicago Lab’s Ryan Duncan.
Maine West 59 Chicago United 57
Maine West is the first to knock off Chicago United this fall in impressive fashion, playing the whole game with only five players. Jared Pearson led Maine West with 17 points in the win while Ahmere Carson bombed in five threes on his way to a game high 21 points for Chicago United.
Hoffman Estates 61 Loyola Academy Sophomores 49
A varsity league high 23 points by 2021 guard Dajour Stephens on the day wasn’t enough for the Loyola Academy sophomores. Hoffman Estates was led by Shayan Badal’s 16 points all inside the paint.
Wheeling 76 Ida Crown 60
Ida Crown had 11 of its 13 players contribute to the scoring, but were outmatched by Wheeling and leading scorer Joe Jordan, who led all scorers with 20 points.
Glenbrook South 89 Downers Grove South 44
Downers Grove South had a tough day with its second loss coming to one-loss Glenbrook South. GBS’ Zack Goldstein did it once again, scoring 26 points, with 15 of them coming in the second half from beyond the three point line. Lukian Kling led DGS with 18, of which 16 came in the second half as well.
Kansas 60 Illinois 43
Despite a 23-21 halftime deficit, Kansas dominated the second half behind Aidan Hosler and Anthony McGhee, leading Kansas with 17 points each.
FROSH/SOPH HIGHLIGHTS: Week 5
Virginia 63 Hersey 54
A strong start by both teams was steered to a 35-32 lead by Virginia at halftime. Despite Sean Safford’s 13-point second half and 21 points for the game, Hersey was not able to overcome Virginia. Nate Kasher once again led his team in scoring with 12 points, and all 10 players scored again for Virginia.
Virginia 74 Duke 21
A dominant performance by Virginia saw all 10 players contribute to the scoring and five players hit double digits. Virginia was led by Roland Fouche Jr. and Nate Kasher’s 12 point games.
Glenbrook South 62 Indiana 40
Glenbrook South came out hot to start with a 42-21 lead at halftime and never looked back. Four players scored in double figures for GBS, and three led the team with 12 each: Noah Shapiro, Nathan Shapiro, and Brandon Ballarini.
Georgia Tech 73 Hersey 57
Georgia Tech drilled 15 threes, lighting it up from deep against Hersey. Danny McCarthy led all scorers with 19 points for Hersey, all coming at the rim as he dominated the boards. Gaven Marr led Georgia Tech with 18 and was responsible for 4 of their threes.
Iowa 77 Highland Park 27
Bronson Bartuch dominated from start to finish with a day high 31 points for Iowa in a lopsided win. Bartuch hit five of Iowa’s 10 threes in the game.
Highland Park 73 Miami 61
Highland Park bounced back in their second of back-to-back games, and was led by Sean Goodman’s game high 18 points as well as Jack Burkman’s 16. Three players scored 14 for Miami: Andrew Mann, Zayd Khan, and 2025 – 7th grader – Noah Gorman.
Miami 68 Cemson 51
Miami was also able to bounce back in their back-to-back matches and were led once again by 2025 – 7th grader – Noah Gorman, who led all scorers with 26 points, including six threes. Connor Mosek spearheaded Clemson with 17.
St Ignatius 49 Ida Crown 25
Seven threes by four different players have St Ignatius the advantage over Ida Crown. Bobby Lane hit three of his teams long balls, and led all scorers with 11 points.
