- Kyler Vanderjagt 6-3 2022 Grand Rapids Northview In a camp setting it is readily apparent this young man is simply a next level athlete. Appeared to be moving at a different speed throughout the day. Explosive and creative in transition. Dropped a behind the back pass on a dime to a teammate for a score that was very impressive. Uses a bounding power dribble in the half court to get to places most players can’t. Having a standout season on the gridiron. Easy to see why with the strength he has in his lower body and wide strong base. Going to border on heresy here, but the frame and game remind me of a young Antonio Gates at Detroit Central before he donned a face mask full time. I know that is a heady comp but the future could be that bright for this extremely young prospect.
- Hunter Soper 6-5 2021 Croswell-Lexington Two weekends ago the sweet shooting Tyler Johnson opened my eyes to what was brewing at CL. This past weekend Soper dominated the camp with his athleticism and all around game. Yes as a Twitter highlight showed, his off the backboard finish was probably the play of the day. However he did so much more throughout the duration of the camp. Showed a consistent outside shot to go with impressive athleticism. More of a slasher than a shooter at this point. Finished with both hands at the rim. Showed a good enough handle to go coast-to-coast on multiple occasions. Along with the aforementioned Johnson and 2023 Zachary Kroetsch who played well on the afternoon, these Pioneers showed there could something special developing at Croswell-Lexington.
- Satchel Love 6-5 2020 Detroit Cristo Rey My first time seeing this “retro” big man. Used good footwork and actual post moves to score over taller players all day. His main tool was a lethal spin move that he was able to use to both the left and right sides. Displayed a soft touch at the rim, but did not extend his range. That’s not a bad thing as Love clearly knows what he is. Despite his long wiry frame, showed plenty of strength in establishing excellent position on both ends of the court. An explosive second leap was a weapon that contributed to his ability to dominate the boards. Also allowed him to frequently follow up his own misses as he simply beat defenders off the ground. Plays at a small parochial school so it will interesting to see the statistical output in his senior year.
- Blake Lund 6-1 2021 Linden Continued his strong play on the Fall showcase circuit. More of a distributor than a shooter on this particular day. Evidenced by his highlight assist to summer teammate Hunter Soper for an off the backboard flush. Has a lot intangibles and just knows how to play the game. On two separate instances chased down and stripped ball handlers on the break. Notable as most players would commit fouls in this situation. Linden is stacked with guards galore. Curious to see both his role and numbers in the upcoming season. Whatever that may be it should lead to success as Lund does so many “winning” things.
- Justin Bates 5-9 2020 Charlotte This point guard stood out in the drill portion of the camp. It is clear from his performance that this young man works hard on his game. His ball handling skills are well schooled and disciplined. Also showed good footwork and explosion going to the basket. Once the camp moved into scrimmages he seemed to struggle a little bit in the beginning. However his motor was apparent as things began to open up a bit as the afternoon went on. He is definitely on the small side, but combated that with an efficient step back jumper. Did not over penetrate and showed the ability to drive and dish multiple times. Crafty at the rim with both a floater and one use of an old school finger roll down the baseline. The Orioles should have a good backcourt this year as 2021 teammate Kyle Sandusky had a decent afternoon as well.
