Today we’re breaking down some 8th graders who will make an impact on the varsity level this season. This is not a complete list by any means but a good starter list for 2024 players looking to make an impact this season. Also, thanks to a new rule in Louisville, no kids in Louisville are allowed to play up on the high school level so you won’t find any on this list.
Skylar Ritchie, Wolfe County – At 6’6, Ritchie is already able to cause matchup problems for opposing teams. He started varsity all summer long for the Wolves and should be expected to play a big role for them this season.
Junius Brunnell, Great Crossing – Another 8th grader who started varsity all summer, Junius is likely headed to a bench role after a couple of guards transferred into Great Crossing after the summer season ended. Either way, he’ll see the floor plenty as a pass first point guard.
Jordan Mabe, South Laurel – Mabe has some long term potential but South Laurel needs him to start producing sooner than later. Jordan is a long guard who can play on or off the ball but will need some time to adjust to the physicality of the the game.
Trent Noah, Harlan County – One of the leaders for best prospect in 2023, Trent is coming off a huge summer where he impressed at the varsity level and then again at an individual camp. Noah can play every spot on the floor and scores the ball well from all over.
Travis Perry, Lyon County – Perry is a well known player in 2023 already and will surpass 1,000 career points before he actually takes a high school class. Travis has had success playing AAU on a national level in addition to his big season at Lyon last year.
Rydge Beverly, Hazard – The younger brother of current NC State point guard Braxton Beverly, Rydge has started to make his own name with a strong summer on the camp circuit in addition to his AAU successes. Beverly is a heady and skilled guard like his brother was years ago.
Will Bishop, Rockcastle County – Bishop was very impressive at the KBC Freshman Showcase last weekend and established himself as a name to watch in the class. With his length and skill level, Will possesses big time upside.
Ty Price, Warren East – Price is a skilled point guard who will likely start for a young Warren East team. His long term ceiling will be determined by whether or not he grows much more but for the season ahead, Ty is among the best 8th graders in the Western part of the state.
