Talented players are routinely thrust into the spotlight. In this episode PH takes a look at some former JV players ready to contribute on the varsity level.
Coleman Lemke 6’7 SF Faith Lutheran 2021 – Lemke has all the tools to make an impact this season. His 4 inch growth spurt is a major factor. Lemke combines the perimeter skills of a guard, with the size of a interior player. Faith runs a strategic read and react system, which means, I expect them to find him often in mismatch situations.
Zach Jefferson 6’1 SG Shadow Ridge 2021 – Jefferson’s a playmaker that is ready for his moment. He showed glimpses of what he could do by averaging over 18 per game last season on the JV. Shadow Ridge has some nice pieces, however I expect him to carry a big scoring load for the Mustangs.
Ryan Abelman 6’2 SG Bishop Gorman 2022 (#8PHN 2022) – Ableman is one of the premier sharpshooters in the class of 2022. The quick triggered guard averaged 25 per game as a freshmen on the JV squad. This season he is expected to come off the bench an add another dimension to the powerhouse Gales.
Joshua Jefferson 6’6 PF Liberty 2022 (#4PHN 2022) – Jefferson is ready for his long awaited debut. He created quite a buzz for himself with his play this summer. The Texas A&M recruit is a talented post player with the skills and fundamentals to be a dominant low post scorer.
Dontrell Johnson 6’5 SF Bonanza 2022 (#7PHN 2022) – Johnson was a member of the Gorman JV squad last season. He’s a long, lean run and jump athlete, who scores in transition and off dribble drives. Johnson is also a versitle defender with the size and athleticism to protect the rim as well as the agility to defend perimeter players. I expect him to be one of the primary options for the Bengals this season.
Mason Mich’l 6’7 C Desert Oasis 2021 – Mich’l actually was moved up toward the end of last season. If his production in his short Varsity stint is any indication, then he should have a major impact for DO this year. In 5 varsity games last season he averaged over 9 per game including a monster 20/11 point outburst against Sierra Vista.
