Every now and again you will have a freshman step up and make an impact on the varsity level. Here is a list of guys who will not only play varsity as a freshman but make a real impact.
John Green, 6’0 PG, Montgomery Catholic: He has great size for a point guard in his class. Plays with a great pace and understanding of the game. Has already in his young career played a lot of high level basketball. He will run the show for the Knights this season and look to make some noise in Class 4A.
Tyler Mallory, 5’7 PG, Greenville: Flash, blur, zip or whatever adjective you want to use describes this kids speed. He takes command on the court even though he is such a young player. Needs to learn that sometimes the best option is for him to score as he is a pass first PG. Should form a good backcort this season with top 2021 prospect in the state Dawson Sarblah.
Keldric Faulk, 6’6 PF, Highland Home: As the years roll on kids get bigger, faster, and stronger at a very young age. He is super athletic for his age and with valuable minutes this season and a good next spring and summer he should develop into a very interesting prospect over the next several years.
Vysen Lang, 6’5 F, Pike Road: As the old saying goes “you cant teach height,” this is definitely the case with this good looking prospect. He plays with a really good motor which will help him get significant minutes this season for the Patriots. He joins Shaun Holmes this season to form a very formidable set of wing players.
Azeer Hicks, 6’5 F, Reeltown: Size, Size, Size is the theme for this 2023 class. Azeer fits that bill to a tee. He is a long and athletic player that who at a young age understands how to play a roll. Will play a big role this season, but after a successful summer he should be ready to contribute on the varsity level. He possesses 3 keys that are essential for a p player of his size….Run, Catch, and Finish. He will continue to develop and these minutes this season will go along way in helping that.
