On the court, 2022 Pine Crest twins Ausar and Amen Thompson are very special players. Both of them stand at 6’5″, 180 lbs. and already have offers from Alabama, Iowa State, USF and FAU.
I last saw them tear it up at the USF Elite Camp in August. Both quick, long and fast, the upside is tremendous with the Thompson’s.
When asking about this past season and what they look forward to as sophomores, here’s what the two had to say.
Ausar: “I’ve become more comfortable with my team and we are all closer now so when we make mistakes we aren’t arguing we are picking each other up. I am looking forward to making a run for state and hopefully winning it. I also want to finish with a high record and gain more offers.”
Amen: “I feel that I matured as a leader most. I’m looking forward to trying to win our district and hopefully even a state.”
Playing in Class 4A, Pine Crest has some solid pieces in place which include 2021 pair Ben Brodsky and Eros Carpio alongside the Thompson twins.
This past summer, the Thompson’s suited up for Florida Pro on the Nike EYBL circuit. They both told they liked to play in the circuit and got to see where all the talent is.
In terms of top strengths and aspects of their game they want to improve, this is what they said.
Ausar: “My top four strengths would be scoring, defense, IQ, passing and ball handling. I think I’m a good 3-point shooter but I am trying to be the best 3-point shooter and break some school records. I want to work on finishing at the basket.”
Amen: “My strengths are ball handling, attacking the basket, defense and I’d say my IQ. I am trying to get my jump shot more consistent.”
Looking ahead to the future, the Thompson twins told me that college coaches all say they like their defense, IQ and attacking game.
Watching them play is fun because they bring endless energy to the game. The Thompson’s are just hitting the peak of their true talents. Expect more colleges to get involved in their recruitment and get them both onboard together.
