He spent his sophomore season at Oxbridge before transferring to Somerset Canyons just prior to November 2018. Now, he is a leader for the Eagles.
He called this past season a mix due to him suffering a high ankle sprain and a back contusion from being undercut on a dunk early into the year. He didn’t get as many games in after being fully healthy.
“It was back and forth and we only had a short 17 game schedule compared to where Oxbridge’s which was 26 games before playoffs,” Ashmore told Prep Hoops. “Coach Casey [Wohlleb] has scheduled many more game during the summer and fall schedule and put together a challenging regular season.
…Plus, with the Elite Camps, I was able to be part of, I gained floor time against and with other talented players in the state. That was good experience and exposure. I look forward to continued learning from coach Casey and my trainer Emmanuel Tiluscar, who both played a similar position to me during the time professional time overseas. I have friendships with many of my teammates from playing with past organizations and that makes us closer.”
This past summer, Ashmore played for Team Knight early on before moving to SoFlo Hoops in the EYBL, now known as Florida Pro.
“All of the experiences on the Nike circuit was valuable,” he said. “We will see what the upcoming travel season brings. I have a few different options at this point. My family and I will sort that out when the time is appropriate.”
No offers have come yet for Ashmore, but he says roughly 20 teams have contacted him with interest including eight with heavy interest.
He rattled off UConn, Princeton, Wofford and Miami Ohio as the programs that contact him weekly by phone.
Other teams strongly interested in him are Boston, Hofstra, George Mason and James Madison.
“Most of them like my athleticism and ability to do a bit of everything on the court,” Ashmore said. “Shoot long or mid-range, transition offense, defend 3 to 4 positions and score off the dribble. Not really a defined position. 6 ‘6” to 6’ 8” swing players seem to be popular these days.”
In terms of his top strengths, Ashmore alluded to his athleticism.
“I feel that I am making up for some lost of time on the court the prior few years at a high rate. Hopefully the player you see at the end of the season is a much better version of the one you see at this point,” he said. “Also, I feel I am a better version of myself from working on scoring from anywhere. I definitely feel I can improve on getting stronger and be more explosive attacking the rim.”
Ashmore says his focus is on gelling with his teammates at executing at a high level. With so much endless potential, the lengthy wing has a vast opportunity at North Broward Prep this season playing alongside 2020 guard Dominick Denny, 2022 forward Justin Abson and 2022 guard Max Fuentes. College coaches should be at North Broward Prep keeping close tabs on Ashmore’s progress. I certainly will be.
