Payton Richardson (2020 Western Christian) – #7
Richardson is the top-ranked player from the Salem metro area and don’t hold the 2A designation against him – there’s no question he would be starting and starring at a 6A school were he attending one of those. The 6-foot-3 senior is simply a great athlete and college programs are starting to notice that as Richardson recently received his first scholarship offer from Seattle Pacific. He’s the odds-on favorite to win 2A Player of the Year honors.
Mason Lomax (2020 Sprague) – #9
When it comes to talented combo guards – especially on the offensive end – Lomax ranks up there in the state. The 6-foot-2 senior is versatile enough to play everywhere on the court except for in the post and in addition to being able to score he’s a big help on the boards and on defense as well. Recruiting interest in Lomax has been a little lukewarm due to some academic concerns but prep school could certainly be an option for him.
Justin Scoggin (2020 West Salem) – #14
Scoggin is another talented scorer who worked hard on his floor leader skills this off-season, playing with California Select against top-notch competition on the PrepHoops Circuit. The 6-foot-3 senior has solid size in the backcourt and competes hard on both ends. Last we caught up with Scoggin a number of programs from D-II on down will be watching him closely this season and he’s a prime contender for Mountain Valley League POY honors.
Kobe Withers (2020 Sprague) – #28
One of the most underrated players in the state could very well be Withers, who is not only the master of the mid-range pull-up but also the master of the books as he’s one of the top high-academic performers in the classroom as well with a 3.93 GPA and 1240 SAT test score. The 5-foot-11 guard has to share the spotlight a little playing in the same backcourt as Lomax but there’s no question that Withers is a top performer worth keeping an eye on.
Trey Galbraith (2020 South Salem) – #34
One of the best quotes we heard all of last season was Jefferson head coach Pat Strickland when referring to Galbraith – “If he were 6-foot-2, he’d be D-I”. There’s no question the 5-foot-8 senior guard can play the game, especially offensively where he can score at all three levels and has a great feel for the game when playing the point. Schools are starting to come on board though and Galbraith was recenty invited to the prestigious Prime Time 40.
