Moving On: DeLaSalle lost more than what people think. Sure Tyrell Terry is now at Stanford and Jamison Battle is playing for George Washington taking nearly 45 points a game with them. But the Islanders two way swarming attack was more than the star pair. Kameron Givens gave the team a third scoring option plus reserves Julian Wright and Kresean Greer played well off the bench as well. That’s five seniors in the rotation that need to be replaced.
Returning Starters: Two starters return: center Jalen Travis and excellent defending guard Andrew Irvin, both seniors. Jalen is the top returning scorer at 9.8 points per game and he’s of course the 6-foot-7 280 pound center with division one football options. Travis is a strong hooper too. Irvin is the active defender, trusted player returning to the line-up.
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role: Juniors Cade Haskins and Keijuan White are the big names returning to the Islander backcourt while Semaj Hart and Amir Whitlock are talented seniors. Hart has always had the physical talent so it will be fun to see how he’s grown. White is one of the most athletic juniors in the state, Haskins will be one of the elite Minnesota junior shooters, and it’s possible that Whitlock could lead the team in scoring and/or assists based on what we saw this 17u season as well as at camps.
Potentials from the JV: Matthew Seawood is a senior that had a nice JV season and did some good things on the 17u circuit this year. Evan Boyd is a junior that was tremendous at times playing JV a year ago and he could step right into the rotation with a strong role.
