There is still a lot we have to learn about what to expect for the upcoming season, but we’ve done our best to keep up with the happenings this summer and have a decent idea of what to look for. Here is a rundown of 12 intriguing teams to watch locally.
BISHOP WALSH (MD)
Coach Prete has assembled arguably the most intriguing roster of any team on this list. The Spartans boast a ton of size at all positions. It will be interesting to see just how good the three new international prospects, Dwayne Koroma, Nestor Dyachok, and Dendé Ceder, can be.

COOLIDGE (DC)
The Colts won 19 games last year and return Stephaun Walker, an athletic forward who was their best player as a freshman. The performances of new backcourt acquisitions of Kyle Gaskins and Chase Cook could prove pivotal to the team’s success.
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT (MD)
Yes, the Raiders lose a ton of key players from last year’s state title squad but don’t discount the pedigree of their three seniors Jahari Simon, Quinton Mincey, and Olumide Lewis. Junior forward Thomas Whitley looks set for a breakout year. You can also expect newcomers, Joemel McNair and Solomon Eric, to make an impact.
EPISCOPAL (VA)
You never know exactly who Episcopal will feature until the bright lights come on, but we do know they bring back standout 2021 guard prospect Darius Johnson. The Maroon will roster a relatively young team but have a battle-tested leader in Quinnipiac commit Tymu Chenery. One thing you can count on is the fact that they will be able to shoot the ball well when you consider the attributes those two along with Garrett Johnson, John Loughlin, Jack Fitzpatrick, Charlie Jackson, and Bryce Steele. Another prospect to look out for among this group is Lou Hutchinson, a versatile class of 2022 playmaker with a strong work ethic and a high ceiling.
FLINT HILL (VA)
The Huskies have a MAC Championship to defend and have to fill massive a void left by their super-reliable senior class. Despite their losses, Flint Hill brings back an experienced group led by twin towers Noel Brown and Dowar Jioklow. Lefty Ronald Ayers has likely earned an increased role in the backcourt alongside sophomore Saxby Sunderland. Keep an eye on Sunderland’s classmate, Nate Pabis, a 6-foot-3 sharpshooter who is heading into the season with some positive momentum.
FRIENDSHIP TECH (DC)
The Titans bring back 2021 prospects Jamiyl Kirkland Jr. and Andre Lattimore Jr. from last year’s PCSAA title squad. They’ve bolstered their junior class with the addition of Ya’Qin Staton and Maurice Johnson respectively. 6’6 sophomore Gene Anderson is another newcomer who could make an immediate impact on what should be another strong team led by Coach Shackelford.
GLENELG COUNTRY (MD)
The potential in this year’s Dragons team is very evident. Coach O’Donnell has a wealth of talent at his disposal. Senior guards Noah Charles and Igor Yoka-Bratasz will provide adequate leadership for a diverse group of older and younger players. Up-and-comer Jordan Brathwaite Jordan Brathwaite 6'3" | SG Mount St. Joseph | 2024 State MD will certainly adopt an increased role in the frontcourt alongside budding post prospect Cole Paar. Did we mention stud sophomore Noah Batchelor yet? Oh, and don’t forget sleeper wing Jarod Robinson and the ever-so-intriguing Garvin Sween Jr.
GOOD COUNSEL (MD)
Coach Kissal has assembled a good young core of talent and could begin to see dividends as soon as this year. The Falcons have a talented 2021 class, Bez Mbeng, Day Waters, Antoine Jacks, and Jalen Curtis, who are now upperclassmen. They’ve likely acquired the necessary experience to play confidently and produce consistently good results. It will be interesting to see exactly what newcomer Dylan Williamson will bring to the table.
LAKE BRADDOCK (VA)
The biggest question regarding this year’s version of the Bruins is how they will utilize David Solomon. It is rumored that he will have the ball in his hands a lot more this year, but that remains to be seen. One thing we do know is that Coach Metress will bring the best out of his group.
MIDDLEBURG (VA)
The Dragons should be a lot of fun to watch this year. They feature a nice blend of size, skill, and athleticism across the board. Ben Li, their 6-foot-6 Lehigh commit, should be a consistent standout. Jaden House and Isaiah Folkes should develop into a dynamic duo in the backcourt while Xzavier Long could be their biggest x-factor. Cavan Reilly is looking like one of the better 2022 guard prospects in Virginia and is also worth monitoring.
NATIONAL CHRISTIAN (MD)
National Christian features two of the most talented unsigned seniors you will find in this region, Oumar Koureissi and Arnardo Camacho. Their 2021 class could be even stronger when you consider the potential of Jakai Robinson and Jon Izemef. The Eagles boast good size at every position and should be in a good position to compete at a high level throughout the upcoming season.
ST. CHARLES (MD)
The Spartans have a good blend of experience and young talent. They will be led by three very good seniors, Max Brooks, Tremaine Chesley, and Omar McGann, who will each bring something different to the table. Junior forward Jaiden Butler and sophomore guard Amir Dade should both grow nicely into their new roles and make bigger contributions than they did last year.
