They’re “Underrated,” though because they don’t have a Division I offer and are currently not verbally committed to a college program.
Let’s get back to the scoring part now:
Carl Blanton (2020) | 6-2 SG | Trotwood
Blanton scored 18.5 points per game last year, making him the GWOC’s top returning scorer. Expect that number to balloon as high as 25 per game this season considering Amari Davis’s graduation. In June camps, for example, Blanton had a very bright green light and his confidence in a score-everything role was evident.
He’s very good at catching and scoring — both as a spot-up shooter and slasher. Displays terrific footwork and body control in traffic. Scores efficiently. Transition weapon.
Cole Fisher (2020) | 6-2 SG | CHCA
A three-sport prospect with great academic standing, Fisher averaged a league-high 18.3 points last season and received a West Georgia offer recently. Possesses a considerable athleticism advantage most nights in the Miami Valley Conference, where he beats opponents with immense speed off the bounce. Comfortable playing fast and a consistent finisher. Good shooter with his feet set.
Chris Herbort (2020) | 6-2 G | Beavercreek
Herbort is one of the most complete shooters in the area. He hits 3-pointers with range when left alone outside. He also likes to shoot pull-ups in motion, often coming off a quick side-to-side crossover. Strong build that he utilizes with spin moves in traffic. Finishes with touch.
Jackson Holt (2021) | 6-2 SG | Turpin
Holt burst onto the scene as a sophomore, averaging 15.7 points per game. An even bigger role in the Turpin backcourt will be assumed this season which may include more ball-handling. He’s a capable creator but his distinct strength is shooting with range. Flashes a skilled mid-range game headlined by footwork and length.
Nolan Mader (2020) | 6-4 SF | Tippecanoe
Mader is a reliable spot-up shooting threat who can also finish in the lane. Scores often on straight-line-drives, impressing with his strong body. Attacks closeouts and can finish with a defender on his hip because of size. Last season Mader shot 38.4 percent on 138 3-point attempts and 77.4 percent from the free throw line.
Alex Mangold (2020) | 6-8 PF | Lakota East
We’re expecting a monster senior year from a recovered Alex Mangold. He’s one of the most skilled scorers at the power forward position in the state. Shoots it if he has space. Makes forwards uncomfortable with his quick first step and finishing ability off the bounce. Shows touch over the shoulder. Strong body.
Anthony McComb (2021) | 6-2 SG | Thurgood Marshall
McComb is a dynamic athlete with blow-by speed, length, and hops. Makes highlight-reel plays around the rim by rising in traffic for and-ones and dunks. Extremely potent in transition as he beats guys up the floor and has a way of alluding guys in the paint with euro steps. Improving as a shooter.
DeAirius Randle-Barker (2020) | 6-0 G | Princeton
Athletic, long lead guard who shot 3-pointers at a 46.0 percent clip last season. Randle-Barker is arguably even harder to contain on the dribble-drive, though, where he scoots past defenders consistently. Finishes explosively. Malone, Thomas More, Cumberlands, and Pikeville offered.
Brayden Sipple (2021) | 6-4 SF | Blanchester
Naturally talented athlete with an elite first step and pull-up shooting ability. Sipple causes problems off the bounce. He can slash into a pull-up or get all the way to the cup. However, finishing in traffic against athletes is the next area we’d like to see him improve. Very smooth shooting stroke. Shows pop around the rim. Most effective with the ball in his hands.
Jakada Stone (2021) | 6-0 PG | Aiken
Stone is a fundamentally sound point guard who poses a scoring threat with and without the ball. As a ball-handler, he can get to his spots in the lane and finish with crafty mid- to short-range moves. Away from the ball, Stone finds soft spots around the arch and takes advantage of kick-outs with his knock-down jumper.
