He began his chapter at Wheeler High School in 2017 and after leading Greenforest Christian in Decatur, Georgia to back-to-back state championships. Coach Thompson holds a 35-23 overall record here at Wheeler High School, leading them to an elite eight and sweet sixteen appearance in Georgia’s 7A classification. Wheeler has released their schedule for the 2019-2020 season and will have on what should be another tough schedule.
The Wildcats will begin their season with a scrimmage on the road against Griffin High School on November 6th before participating in the Georgia Elite 8 Tip Off Classic on November 9th at McEachern High School. A week later, they are expected to face The Heritage School in the loaded Hawks Naismith Classic at Pace Academy on November 15th with a region matchup against Campbell High School. They are expected to participate in other events like the Jared Cook Classic, Give Back Classic, Holiday Hoopsgiving, TOC Showcase, Kruel Classic in Florida, and TOC Holiday Tournament between November and December.
Wheeler has always played in one of the state’s toughest regions, class 7A region 2. The region includes tough programs such as Westlake, East Coweta, Campbell, and Pebblebrook, which they will play twice. Other non-region matchups they have scheduled include games against Allatoona, Kennesaw Mountain, and Milton High School. The Wildcats should be led by their star freshman 2023 PG Isaiah Collier and returning senior 2020 F Sam Hines. Coach Thompson and his Wheeler squad this season should be one of the toughest teams in the state once again.
