With transfers, injuries and players blossoming, much could change but here is my last 8 of the 24 possible playoff teams for 5A:
On the road for 1st round (Play in game)
Horizon
-They had some dominant shooters the last few years who graduated and now they will lean on Sr guard JD Feagles. He can carry them in many games. They also have three sophs that will contribute with Cameron Coraggio, Croix Sweeney and Josh Rogers.
Central
-They will be led by a talented back court of Jr guards Eric Lira and “Bear” Newsome. Up front they have Sr post Petar Lazic and Soph forward Kyiree Bell.
Higley
-The team this year will all be centered around two sport star Sr forward Jason Harris. He will bring a lot of attention to him every game. When they double team him he will kick out out to Sr shooter Jordan Flowers. He should have a big year transferring over from Eduprize. They will be helped by Jr JJ Israel and Soph Deveraux Roberts.
Buena
-Another team who lost a lot of fire power will rely heavily on their Sr’s with Isaiah Baugh, Brock Fenton, Jaylen McFadden and Jovany Featherston. Up front they have some youth at the 4 and 5 with Jr Christian Gouchie and Soph Justin Davis.
Agua Fria
-A year that could of been for Agua Fria. They had three of the better kids in the area who all chose to recently transfer. They still have some talented players coming back with Sr’s Rene Aguirre and Jaden Glass plus Jr F Michael McGehee up front. Their team will be centered around their talented Jr PG in Dre Sheehan. He will make them go.
Mountain View Marana
-They lost a tough Sr duo last year but still have a versatile Sr leader coming back with Cameron Cotton. Also have Sr’s Ryan Brown and Jayce Crandell plus Jr guard Miles Reidhead will handle the ball.
Willow Canyon
-They will be led by Sr stud Wing Sunday John and Soph guard Pike Tancil. These two will do most of the damage.
Campo Verde
-They lost a lot of fire power from last year but have some nice players returning led by Sr post Tyler Watts and guard Garrett Anderson.
