With transfers, injuries and players blossoming, much could change but here is my next 8 of the 24 possible playoff teams for 5A:
Playoff home games 1st round (Play in game)
McClintock
-Two top-tier senior athletes will lead the way with Chance Garland and Armani Williams. They also have Jr sniper in Darius Ward.
Casteel
-They will be led by Sr guards Deven Franks and Caelan Russell. These two will do some serious damage this year. They will be helped by Soph F Carson Ledbetter plus Jr’s Dane Christensen and Isaiah Newcombe.
Cholla
-One of the top Tucson teams are led by a strong trio of players. Senior guard Myles Gantt, rising soph forward Isaac Garcia and their Junior big Ruben I. Cázares. All three are next level players and may be a high seed.
South Mountain
-They are led by four guards with Sr Kyree Ware, Sophs LJ Ginnis, DeOtis Nunn Jr and Jr Zay Freeney and one big with mobile Soph Damarion Pouncil.
Desert Mountain
-They lost a lot of Sr’s but have a nice young core ready to go. They will be led by Sr guard Justice Rogers, Jr guards Tony Elliott and Carson Biggs plus Soph forwards Connor Barrett and Will Dubuc.
Sunrise Mountain
-They have a budding Jr star in forward Colin Carey and a Sr forward Tanner Mayer who is a tough inside/out cover. Their guard/wing play will be relied on by Sr’s Aidan Blaylock and Brandon Taylor who can fill it up.
Carl Hayden
-They are led by Sr forward Terrence Green who is one of the top athletes in state. He will be surrounded by Sr’s Garren Rosser, Ricky Perchez, Angel Carrasco and Lee Mctiller. They also have Jr forward Kevin Yarbough who will contribute.
Cienega
-They will be led by Jr stud forward Jason Elder and Jr PG Diego Mendoza. They are a tough 1-2 punch from Tucson. Also Sr guard Carson Mott will help out.
