This weekend that vicinity is Seattle, and the Prep Hoops Washington Expo. For most of these players, this will be my first opportunity to verify what I’ve seen on film. In this article PH takes a look at some of those players in the C/O 2021.
Jake Cleary 6’2 SG Stanwood – Cleary is a shot maker. It would be easy to just call him a shooter, however he knocks down shots from all angles. Off balance, with a hand up or wide open. Quick release textbook form. Cleary is better in catch and shoot situations, however he sprinkles in just enough pull-ups to keep defenders honest. Interested to see if I’m looking at an undersized 2, or a combo guard.
Joe Cookson 6’6 SF Seattle Academy (PHW #44 2021) – Cookson shows multiple skills on film. He had a productive year last season for Seattle Academy. Small school bigs always intrigue me. I’m interested in seeing how well his skills translate versus a step up in competition.
Leo DeBruhl 6’2 PG Seattle Academy (PHW #21 2021) – Players can learn a lesson from Debruhl’s film. He’s an instant stop the tape guy. DeBruhl puts an exciting package on display. Confident handle, and great court vision, he has a flair to his game. In an open camp setting I want to verify if his skill set looks as advanced in person as it does on film. Averaged nearly 17ppg last season as a sophomore.
Logan Kinloch 6’5 SG West Valley – I can’t wait to get my first live look at Kinloch. The lefty has a herky jerky game that reminds me of an undersized Adam Morrison. Lot of versatility to his game. He can go get it off the glass and lead the break. He moves well without the ball, but perhaps his signature skill is his shooting. Few things I’m interested in seeing from him. Want to verify his height, but I’m also interested in finding out what type of run and jump athlete he is.
Mason Landdeck 6’2 PG Cashmere (PHW #25 2021) – I always tell players if you’re going to bring swag to the floor, you better back it up. Landdeck does both. Flashy PG that can flat out score. Doesn’t need a ton of space to get his shot off and he makes it whether on or off balance. We have him listed as attending to Zillah, he played at Cashmere last season. I just want to find out where he will actually be playing this year.
Christian Norman 6’6 PF Central Valley (PHW #43 2021) – I see some good things on film from Norman, however I desperately need to see him in person. To me I need to find out if he’s an undersized stretch 4, or if he’s someone that can defend out on the wing. His film shows that he can shoot the ball, and put it on the floor a little bit. However, he is one of the players that will really be under the eyeball test for me.
Alex Pape 6’2 SG Roosevelt Pape (PHW #53) – Pape has my attention. The baby face assassin shows I.T.G range. Slick handle. Pape has the ability to beat defenders off the bounce and finish around the rim. On film he’s pulling from 30. He’s only going to have to make one or two of those at the Expo to catch someone’s eye. Interested in finding out if he’s an undersized 2 or a knock down shooting 1.
Julian Swanson 6’4 PF Roosevelt – Swanson is smart. His film shows exactly what he does well. Scrappy player willing to stick his nose in and compete. Only film I saw of a post player sprinting the floor. Showed the ability to use both hands around the rim. Interested in seeing how well he finishes. Willing defender who contested a ton of shots. Competitiveness is difficult to judge on tape, however I hope he brings the same effort to the Expo that he does on film.
