The big dunk, the chase down block, the in traffic rebound. These are the signature plays of the supreme athletes. Recently I pulled up to the Prep Hoops Washington 250 Expo. The event was littered with high flyers. In this article PH takes a look at some of the best.
Aaron Von Bruck 6’4 SG Nathan Hale 2020 – Somebody should have told this kid that this was an exhibition. He mercilessly attacked the rim. A multi – foot jumper, he can catch TJ’s and lobs off of two. When he gets his steps right, he can float off one. Complete athlete that sprints the floor, and protects the rim from a wing position.
KeJohn Atkins 6’2 PG Rainer Beach 2021– Atkins impressed me with his speed and quickness. He gets off the floor with ease. Lighting quick PG that can surprise you with his bounce. Great quick twitch athlete. He’s a one foot jumper that didn’t need to take a ton of steps to get off the ground. One of the fastest end to end guys at the Expo.
Lemuel “LJ” Armstrong 6’7 PF Rainier Beach 2021 (#20 PHW 2021) – You know that thing kids do now where they tap their head after someone gets dunked on? Armstrong had his teammates taping their heads all day. Powerful two foot jumper. He finished several assist with monster dunks. He also had a ton of one foot hook Dunks. Armstrong’s the type of player that dunks passes others would lay up. Highlighted his leaping ability with his rebounding and shot blocking. If he wanted it he had the ability to go get it. Protected the rim with several thunderous blocks.
Jermaine Davis (Featured Image) 6’3 SF O’Dea 2021 (#11 PHW 2021) – They tell us to walk the floor until someone makes you stop. Davis made me stop. Forgive me if I was more in awe of his game than the guys that see him do these things on the regular. He’s an elite run and jump athlete. 2 foot jumper that explodes off the floor. Davis is a “try it” dunker in that he tries to dunk EVERYTHING! I want his vert measured. Quick explosive 2nd jump. Davis needs 0 steps to get from floor to the rim.
Kaeden McGlothin 6’7 PF Stanwood 2022 (#7 PHW 2022) – It’s going to be a long 3 years for the rims in the state of Washington. Mcglothin is a spectacular catch and finish athlete. Primarily a one foot jumper. If he gets his steps down, he’s finishing at the rim. Showed the agility to switch ball screens, and sprinted the floor fluidly. McGlothin is a well conditioned athlete who still had his bounce late in the day.
