We will be providing comprehensive coverage from today’s event throughout the upcoming week. Today, we take a crack at making our All Camp Teams, with seven guys on the Second Team to get started. It wasn’t easy with so many talented guys in the gym, and just because a guy didn’t make the team doesn’t mean he didn’t play well. With that being said, here’s our Prep Hoops VA Top 250 All Camp Second Team.
Pharaoh Lassiter | 6’3” WG | Bethel 2021
Lassiter is a kid I had heard some things about but had yet to see in person, but it didn’t take long for him to make his presence felt at the camp as one of the top well rounded scorers in attendance. A two guard with good size, Lassiter was able to play on and off the basketball and scored it at a high rate and efficiently, while also showing a complete and versatile scoring package. He created space well off the bounce, he was able to make contested shots from all three levels and he continued to come at his defenders it seemed like every play he came down. He’ll be a guy to keep an eye on in the 757 to have a breakout season moving forward.
Jared Clawson | 6’0” G | Thomas Edison 2020
Clawson didn’t surprise me much in the event, and that isn’t a bad thing because I already knew that he could flat out score the basketball and that’s what he did throughout the camp. He may not be the biggest guy on the court but he shoots it at a very high clip from deep both off the catch and off the bounce, he’s able to create his own shot whether it’s in isolation or utilizing the pick-and-roll and it doesn’t take much for him to get it going on the offensive end. He played loose and he played free throughout the camp, and while he’s a scorer he didn’t force things and made the right play for the most part as well.
Cavan Reilly | 6’2” WG | Middleburg 2022
Reilly lit the gym up as soon as he walked in, as the kid just flat out couldn’t miss in the first game. A shooter with good size, Reilly spread the floor well and made shots at a high clip early, and he showed good patience and understanding as he attacked closeouts well and showed the ability to create space on the step back as well. He cooled off a little bit, which is expected because he couldn’t continue to scorch the nets at the rate he was, but that gave him the opportunity to show he’s more than just a knock down shooter. He had some very athletic plays including a poster dunk in transition and some impressive rebounds, and he showed good understanding of the game making the right play for the most part as well.
Antony Melvin | 5’7” PG | Chancellor 2020
Melvin was a standout at last year’s Top 250 Expo, and he must have remembered to bring it again this year as well because he was one of the most fun players to watch. A shifty smaller guard with some flare to his game, Melvin had the ball on a string all day as he crossed defenders and got in the lane where he showed good vision and passing ability as well as the ability to finish in the lane with either hands a number of floaters and pull-ups. He shot the ball well from deep off the catch, competed on both ends and made his teammates better throughout the camp.
Jayson Fain | 6’4” WF | Carlisle 2021
Every time I see Fain he continues to improve and impress as a long term prospect that should be a scholarship player when it’s all said and done. A long lefty with good size and an above average athleticism, he showed a little bit of everything as a guy who can play and guard multiple positions and impact the game in a number of ways. He showed improved ball handling as he created his own shot on the perimeter, he made some shots off the catch when he was left open, he rebounded well on both ends and he had some very impressive and athletic finishes above the rim in transition. He’s set to be the go-to guy on Carlisle this year and should catch some college coaches attention moving forward as well.
Reed Pendleton | 6’2” WG | Cave Spring 2021
One of Adam’s favorite players from the camp, Pendleton came all the way from Roanoke to put on a show on the offensive end both with his shooting ability and the way he played without the ball in his hands. In a camp environment where everyone is out to get their own, Pendleton had some moments where he shot the ball a lot when he was feeling it, but if he wasn’t getting the ball he was constantly moving and doing little things such as screening for others and cutting through to keep the defense moving. He showed a ratchet from deep as he shot the ball extremely well, and he also surprised some people with his ability to attack and create space off the bounce and score the ball from multiple levels too.
Jaden Keasey | 6’5” PF | Menchville 2020
Rounding out our Second Team is Keasey, who earned this spot by doing all of the little things in a camp setting that usually doesn’t bold well for big men who don’t touch the basketball. The 6’5” big man showed some grit in the paint, showed good touch as he was able to step out and make some shots and even when he wasn’t touching the basketball he showed that he can make an impact on the glass or by helping other guys get open. He’s the perfect kind of glue guy you like to see out of a big man and impressed some college coaches in attendance with his play.
