Brock Donaldson – 2022 – SG – Appleton North
He was playing on one of the more loaded teams, so opportunities were sometimes few and far between for Donaldson. Still, we got some nice glimpses of the sophomore guard. Donaldson had some pretty drives to the rim. A fluid athlete who can slice his way to the bucket, Donaldson looked decisive while facing some really good competition.
Joah Filardo – 2022 – G – Mineral Point
Filardo is a tough, hard-nosed guard that can play on or off the ball. He’s a very good ball handler and isn’t bothered by constant pressure. Filardo has good size and strength for his age. He’s also adequate at changing paces in the open floor, keeping defenders guessing. The vision and passing ability appear to be there as well as Filardo can get into high percentage areas, draw defenders, and dish the rock.
Carson Leuzinger – 2022 – PG – Monroe
The mid-range game on this kid is something serious. Leuzinger has a great one or two-dribble pull-up from 12-15 feet. He’s only about 5-foot-11, but Leuzinger has great hang time on his shot. When Leuzinger gets to his left, he’s extremely comfortable as a shooter. A smooth and skilled ball handler, Leuzinger can set up defenders and create space off the dribble. He plays on a rather deep high school team, but Leuzinger is capable of putting up a lot of points with the way he shoots the basketball while not being fazed by a hand in his face.
Grant Martin – 2022 – PG – Menomonee Falls
Menomonee Falls has a lot of young talent and Martin is another sophomore you can’t sleep on. Martin is a pretty fearless player. He’s undersized, but explosive going to the rim and likes to challenge bigger defenders at the rim. Martin had some acrobatic finishes in traffic on Sunday. Also a quality shooter, Martin can knock down his open triples. He can score, but Martin looks like more of a pass-first guard and did a great job of setting up teammates in transition and putting themselves into positions to be successful.
Mekhi Shaw – 2022- PG – Eau Claire Memorial
There’s no getting around it…Shaw is small. He’s listed at 5-foot-9 and that’s probably a little generous. Still, Shaw has the tools to work around it and effective offensively. Shaw is very skilled on the ball, has quick, tight handles, and a short swift shooting stroke. Defensively, he’ll have to prove he’s not a liability and we’ll see if Shaw can get comfortable playing in the paint as time goes on, but the Eau Claire Memorial standout is a nice-looking guard that can fill it up.
J.T. Seagreaves – 2022 – F – Monroe
One of the better athletes in his class, Seagreaves is very bouncy. He’s just an effortless leaper that can throw down alley-oops with ease. Seagreaves has some versatility as well. He can handle and shoot the ball a little bit, making him a threat in the half court. For now, Seagreaves is mostly affecting games as a momentum changer with dunks or wiping away the opposition’s points as a rim protector.
Taylor Smith – 2023 – F – Martin Luther
This is a prospect with a lot of potential that looks like he could be an early impact player for Martin Luther next season. The 6-foot-5 forward is long and athletic. He looked quite explosive near the rim for his age. We’ll see how his skills develop over the next few years, but Smith has the athletic measurables to be a top prospect in this state.
