202 high school prospects (2020-2023) competed at a high level at Daytona Mainland where 20 plus college coaches, 15 plus media companies and a plethora of parents and family taking in the action.
We will have coverage all week long about the event.
Here is a look at my favorite slashers from Sunday.
Zyhir Sims (Fletcher)
At 6’2″, 2021 Fletcher guard Zyhir Sims was one of the best pure athletes in attendance at the Top 250 Expo. Offers from Albany State and Coastal Carolina already sit on his table and he’s going to add many more this season. Sims is a reliable shooter and his burst gets him inside and to the bucket with ease.
Max Keebaugh (Niceville)
2020 6’9″ forward Max Keebaugh made the move from Choctaw to Niceville for his senior season. At the Expo, he was all over the glass and putting back lay-ins. He’s able to shoot the mid-range, but his slashing was on point for much of the day.
Josh Berenbaum (Calvary Christian)
Florida College and LSU Alexandria have offered 2020 6’7″ Calvary Christian guard Josh Berenbaum. He’s a strong prospect who likes to handle the rock and get to the cup. He was one of the top slashers in Daytona as his size and power made him stand out.
Deondre Earley (St. Pete)
A flashy ballhandler, 2020 6’3″ St. Pete guard Deondre Earley can make an impact in bunches. He was active per usual at the showcase. Earley’s tempo gets him going and he was able to attack inside often.
Abdoulaye Thiam (Dr. Phillips)
Super athletic and bouncy, 2020 6’3″ Dr. Phillips guard Abdoulaye Thiam is someone who stood out in all three games at the Expo. I loved his energy and willingness to get others involved. Thiam is best as a downhill attacker because of his great foot speed and finesse ability.
Marquel Bryant (Riverview)
A high IQ guard, 2020 6’3″ Sarasota Riverview guard Marquel Bryant is a kid who simply puts in the work. He has nice size, range and is always in for a battle on either side of the ball. Bryant was attacking time and time again and it was working well.
Zae Wiggins (Lincoln)
The top leader for his Lincoln High squad, 2020 6’1″ guard Zae Wiggins was able to play good basketball on Sunday. He is a blazer and a smart point man. Wiggins was passing with ease and going to the rack and scoring.
Mekhi Perry (Land O’ Lakes)
2020 6’1″ Land O’ Lakes guard Mekhi Perry is used to scoring a lot. He was able to do so in Daytona and he did it in a variety of ways as a shooter and slasher. It was Perry’s slashing ability that got his team up and his confidence growing.
Joshua Blazquez (Osceola)
At Osceola, 2021 5’10” guard Joshua Blazquez is taking over the reins of the backcourt from 2019 grad Joshua Marte. It means the Kowboys won’t lose speed, won’t lose versatile looks or overall passing. Blazquez can do those things and more as an attacker with his flashy play and maneuvering skills.
