202 high school prospects (2020-2023) competed at a high level at Daytona Mainland where 20 plus college coaches, 15 plus media companies and a plethora of parents and family taking in the action.
We will have coverage all week long about the event.
Here is a look at my favorite defenders from Sunday.
Logan West (Andrew Jackson)
Perhaps the fiercest defender in attendance, 2020 6’6″ Andrew Jackson guard/forward Logan West is a man amongst boys most times he’s out there. He was making it happen on the offensive end with dunks and transition play. Defensively it was fun to watch him lock in and focus on trying to stop everyone that came his way.
Arthur Frigo (North Broward Prep)
Transferring over to North Broward Prep from Oxbridge, 2021 6’8″ forward Arthur Frigo continues to shine as a core defender in games. In all three showcase outings, he was active down low moving his body well and making life hard for opposing players. Frigo is a solid all-around forward who mixes it up on both ends, especially defense where he is always locked in.
Brent Reid (Sunlake)
2020 6’10” Sunlake forward Brent Reid is hard to not see out of the court due to his long arms and presence. He is a nice mid-range shooter for a bigger prospect and defensively he is a shot blocker and space mover. Reid takes up a lot of room inside and it helps his overall game.
Gary Jones III (Sickles)
Shooting, running back on both ends of the floor and providing sound defense is what 2020 6’10” Sickles forward Gary Jones III is all about. He is not the fastest and he knows that, but he’s cleaned up his foot speed enough to warrant college looks and attention. Division III Dallas has offered and he would be an instant impact down low at the collegiate level.
David Mazon (Riverview)
Intimidating athletes in Sarasota come around often in all sports and 2021 6’5″ Riverview guard/forward David Mazon is part of the bill. He is a bruiser offensively and a load to get by defensively. This is a big junior campaign for Mazon, who is a fantastic student with a 4.5 GPA and a 1240 SAT score. He is a high IQ and true athlete.
Camden Easley (Orlando Christian Prep)
At Orlando Christian Prep, the Class 2A heavyweights has size, versatility and endless speed. 2021 6’8″ forward Camden Easley runs like a track and field standout and his energy is contagious. He holds his own defensively because of his long arms and jumping ability. Look for Easley to have a steady junior season, contributing as a core stopper defensively and an attacker on offense.
Shawn Shaukat (Seminole)
A big body at 6’6″, 2020 Sanford Seminole forward Shawn Shaukat is a crafty finisher for an undersized four man and on defense, he is always ready to make a play. He tends to be in the right spot when opposing players come his way.
