While there were plenty of new faces that shined we got another look at a few of our ranked players from the 2021 class that were already on our radars. Here are how those players fared.
Eddie McPhee – George Washington – 2021
McPhee does so many under the radar things on the court that are so successful to the team’s success that goes unnoticed. He has great size and skill which at times has me shocked that he is only a 2021 kid. He has a very polished game as he can score, shoot, rebound and defend. When he is attacking on offense he is dangerous as he creates so many mismatches with his strength and athleticism. At the event he was able to put that all on display as he was one of the better defenders that created additional opportunities for his unit. When the offense seemed to slow down he was also able to kick start them as a creative finisher. McPhee’s stock is rising.
Skylar Wilson – Eagle crest – 2021
Wilson came in and showcased a bit of everything at the event. It was interesting to see him take on ball-handling duties as he was the best ball handler on his team and this was a new role that I seen him in. We are used to seeing him splash countless 3-pointers on the perimeter but he showed exactly what makes him special, his ability to switch it up. Wilson is one of the most physically gifted players we have. He is a tall guard with deep range and the ability to soar for dunks as well, those things were both on display. He then showed that he can run his unit and be patient on offense while letting the game come to him. With being able to score both inside and out with also court vision and awareness it seems as if Wilson is poised for a breakout year. Plenty took notice at the event and it will kickstart his most important year to date.
Darrian Hammons – George Washington – 2021
Another Patriot made this list for plenty of the same reasons. Hammonds is a true point guard with the ability to beat his man off of then dribble as he is difficult to stay in front of and finished at the rim. Hammonds is a guard that can get it going in bunches and stays on the attack as a home run scoring threat. He showed off his vision and also played tough-nosed defense on some of the better guards on the day. Hammonds is a defensive anchor from the guard spot that’s energy is contagious. He knocked down a few shots, pushed the pace on offense and showed off his two-way abilities. Solid day.
Schaefer Reichart – Doherty — 2021
Reichart is one of the better guards in the class that scoring come relatively easy for. He is a hard worker that moves well on the floor and is very active on both ends. He shoots lights out, he has a tight handle with moves that frees himself up and also can score at the rim with ease. At the event he was able to get going offensively while showing why he is amongst the top of our rankings. This season I expect him to have some explosive scoring games where he knocks down five or so 3-pointers in a game. He is electrifying on offense and I liked what I seen.
Jason Simental – Thunder ridge –2021
One thing that stands out for Simental besides his skill with the ball in his hands is his strength. He is a bigger guard that sees things from a different perspective. He is able to score both inside out and with him being a bigger guard he was being guarded by smaller players in which he feasted. He showed off a midrange, knocked down a couple shots and also finished well around the basket as one of the top players in the state. He is a player that has an all-around game and is also a hound on defense that gets after it. Solid day for him and it was nice to see him in that setting.
