It’s simple self preservation. The higher the GPA and test scores, the more college scholarship opportunities available. In this article PH takes a look at some of the top Academic performers at the Top 250 Expo in Oregon.
Matthew Levis 6’1 PG Jesuit 2020 (#55 PHO 2020) – Levis displayed a cool game and competitive spirit. Confident playmaker with a great feel for the game. The 3.9 student currently holds an offer from Concordia and is scheduled to visit Azusa Pacific.
Erik Fraser 6’4 SF Grant 2020 (#30 PHO 2020) – Fraser’s an intriguing prospect. He has good size and parlayed a late junior season surge into a productive Expo. He helped Grant to a 23 win season, and sports a 4.0 GPA, The 6’4 wing shooter would be a nice fit for the right program.
Steven Long 6’3 SG Tigard 2020 – Long is poised to have a breakthrough season. Good skill set. The 6’3 guard is a nice run and jump athlete. Hard driver that attacks the paint. Excellent doesn’t begin to describe his accomplishments in the classroom. A 4.1 student Long plans on studying Aerospace Engineering in college.
Isaiah Gilliam 6’0 SG South Albany 2021– Gilliam had an outstanding Expo. Played hard, and with a controlled toughness. A relative unknown, I could see him being a nice find for several programs. The C/O 2021 guard has time to impress. He also has a humble attitude and 4.0 GPA.
Guy Littlefield 6’0 PG Forest Grove 2020 (#56 PHO 2020) – Basketball truly is a small world. I got to see a ton of Littlefield this summer playing for Hard 2 Guard out of Las Vegas. He’s a great combination student athlete. Strong quick slashing PG. Littlefield displayed a solid layup package. He put up nearly 19ppg for a 20 win Forest Grove squad. Another season of production like that combined with his 4.0 GPA, makes him an attractive prospect.
Jesse White 6’1 PG Barlow 2020 (#2 PHO 2020) – White showed his toughness this weekend. Word in the gym was that he participated in some other games this weekend. He still showed up, fought and displayed his competitive edge. One of the top players in the state. White has a 4.0 and in the gym range. He currently holds an offer from Western Oregon.
Jacob Tompkins 6’4 SG Summit 2020 (#12 PHO 2020) – I have it on good authority that Tompkins is one of the top high academic guys in the state. He brought his complete skill set to the expo. High IQ player with a good looking stroke. He’s getting a lot of interest and holds an offer from George Fox University. With his size, combo guard ability, and 27 ACT score, Tompkins makes a nice small school find.
