6’6 Daniel Abreu – Willard
Daniel has been the picture of consistency for the better part of a year now. Consistent in his approach. Consistently improving. Consistently one of the top players in the gym regardless of where he’s at. Saturday was no exception. He makes everyone around him better and impacts the game on both ends of the floor and with or without the ball. He is in line for a special senior season.
6’3 Luke Cox – Triad
I covered Luke’s strong start to his junior campaign in my first story for Prep Hoops and it’s been a pleasure to keep an eye on his progression since. Brings good size on the wing. He creates very well off the bounce and can fill it up with a quick pull-up jumper. Showed off his playmaking ability Saturday as a distributor with multiple impressive passes that set up scoring opportunities for teammates.
6’3 James Gibson – Lesterville
One of the better “glue guys” that caught my eye Saturday. Good nose for the ball. High motor. Does all the little things: sets quality screens, rebounds, cleans up around the hoop, and gives max effort at all times.
6’1 Brock Niemeier – Liberty North
Brock was on a team that consisted of elite slashers Sam Richardson and Rashad Weekly-McDaniels and was a critical floor spacer. He did a very nice job of getting deep in the corners and rotating to space on drives and cashing in on drive and kick opportunities.
6’8 Carson Parker – Montgomery County
Good sized forward who had a nice day Saturday. Literally rebounded everything near him and was relentless to the glass on both ends. Fundamentally sound on the block, soft touch over his left shoulder. Solid pick and roll finisher. Stepped out to the top of the key and showed range as a spot up threat as well.
6’4 Sam Richardson – Hancock
One of the top slashers in the 314 was business as usual Saturday. Extremely athletic and bouncy wing that uses those attributes to time up eye-popping blocks and snatch rebounds defensively, and then he is off to the races in transition. Did a nice job of finding his outlet and on more than one occasion finished his rim run with a lob attempt his way. Excellent mid-range game, capable beyond the arc.
6’4 Jacques Thomas – Rockwood Summit
Speaking of athletes, Jacques was a frequent-flyer to the rim Saturday. He finished several transition opportunities with big time jams. Uses his length and athleticism very well to create steals and also to elevate and finish above defenders when he attacked the rim off the bounce.
6’4 Jonathan Thompson – Park Hill South
Jonathan had some nice stretches at the Expo on Saturday. Showed some polished footwork inside. Nice touch off the glass. Did a nice job putting it on the floor in transition and converted on a number of mid-range jumpers.
