Here were my top sophomores I viewed:
Mekhi Mason PG 6’2 Chandler
-Had it all working for him this weekend. He defends multiple positions, handles the ball well, makes jumpers from deep, has great size for position and is extremely poised for his age. Never gets too high or low and plays with control. Made my 1st team.
Will Coates F 6’5 Desert Vista
-Grew at least two inches recently and he still comes with that shooting stroke. He is very consistent from deep and rebounds well in his area. He is growing so fast and he isn’t done. He can put the ball on the floor a little too.
Micah Pierce PF 6’6 Desert Vista
-High level rebounder with a big motor. He is another that just seems to keep growing. He has a huge wingspan and can block shots in the paint and has quick feet to move laterally in space.
Orlando Gonzales PG 5’11 St. Mary’s
-Turning into one of the better pure PG’s in the class. Just has a professional attitude about the game. He always is trying make others better. He is a good advanced passer and has a tighter handle. He can shoot it from deep and is aggressive to get to the rim. Uses the floater and has speed.
Justin Shorts SF 6’3 Millennium
-Strong downhill scorer. He has a great body with a nice handle and scores it easily through contact. He is a good on-ball defender as he uses his strength, length and quickness to keep opponents in front of him. He will need to improve his shooting long term.
DeOtis Nunn Jr CG 6’0 South Mountain
-One of the more consistent shooters at the event. He has a shifty handle and can create his own shot and pull-up from mid to the 3pt line. He can improve his foot speed but his mind and skill are at a high level.
Jason Parent SF 6’4 Prescott
-Long wing who can shoot it. He can play inside or on the perimeter. He is also a sneaky good athlete and shows a lot of upside.
Josh Deakyne PG 5’11 Heritage Maricopa
-High IQ lead guard is very crafty and can shoot it. He has a good middle game and has the ability to find teammates. He is an efficient scorer with good quickness and speed.
2023
Kota Benson PG 6’0 Baboquivari
-The biggest revelation of the camp. He is a true PG with nice court vision. He changes speeds and directions well and likes to get downhill. The lefty has a quick shooting release and can pull-up off the dribble from mid to the 3pt line. He should dominate 1A for 4 years!!
Benson has the look of a Top-20 freshman.
