While we are familiar with many of the top guys signed up there are a number we aren’t terribly familiar with, or ones we would like to see how they fare in this competitive setting. Here’s a look at some of the players we are looking forward to getting a closer look at at the Expo.
Steven Long (2020 Tigard)
Long played JV last season but we got to see some bits and pieces of him in summer league and in HoopDreams Basketball workouts and were impressed with his length and athleticism on the wing. At the Expo, the high academic performer will go up against some of the state’s best.
Colby King (2020 Sunset)
King was out for most of the post-season due to a rotary cuff injury suffered by lifting weights. The 6-foot-4 senior is a tough, physical wing/forward who can do damage both inside and out. It will be good to see him shake off the rust, especially against such high-level competition.
Esyah Pippa-White (2023 Gresham)
Pippa-White has been one of the top guard prospects coming up and he played against national competition this spring and summer with the Rose City Rebels 14U squad. There’s no question his debut at Gresham is well-anticipated – how will the incoming freshman fare? The event may give us a good preview.
JJ Anderson (2020 Marist)
We don’t often get to see smaller classification players outside of the Portland Metro area so it will be good to get a look at the shifty point guard who earned All-League honors at the 4A level. There will certainly be plenty of lead guard competition.
Austyn Shipps (2020 Cleveland)
Cleveland was largely dominated by its senior class last season so we unfortunately didn’t really notice Shipps. He’ll have a huge role this upcoming year and according to Warriors head coach Dondrale Campbell, the 6-foot-1 senior had a big summer playing with the team. He’ll get a chance to match up against the state’s best.
Blake Lambert (2020 Life Christian)
The last time we saw Lambert he was dominating the 1A ranks during the season. At 5-foot-4 he obviously lacks size but has plenty of heart and toughness. Getting the opportunity to battle against some elite big-school point guards will be key in getting college programs to overlook his height.
Keshav Anand (2022 Westview)
The first-ever look we got at Anand was prior to his freshman year with Westview in June summer ball and we were immediately impressed with his lefty soft touch. How did the summer with Elite 24 enhance his game? We’ll see at Parkrose.
Tate Reese (2021 Sunset)
Reese is another player whose development we are monitoring. He’s grown a couple of inches to 6-foot-4 and as one of the bigger players at Sunset this next year, he’s going to be counted on for interior play. There’s no question he’ll have to step up against some tough competition to make an impression on Sunday.
Christian Rowell (2022 Mountainside)
Mountainside is slowly building their program and part of the reason head coach Dustin Hewitt is excited is because of some of the talented young players the program. Rowell is a skilled 6-foot-6 wing and it will be interesting to see how he stacks up against older players his size.
Donatello Tupper (2022 Roosevelt)
Tupper has long been considered one of the top guys in his class and he cut his teeth on varsity ball this past year. He’s long and athletic and it will be interesting to see how he fares against the top-level competition.
Mason VanBeenen (2022 West Linn)
We mentioned VanBeenen on the big men that are attending the event. How has he progressed physically and with his confidence playing against older players? We’ll get a good look at the Expo.
