DeOtis Nunn Jr – South Mountain made a steal on a particularly-solid defensive possession in which he bothered the guy he was guarding for a good 10-15 seconds. He collected the ball, crossed over and hit a step-back midrange jumper that barely even grazed the rim on the way down.
Josh Deakyne – Heritage Maricopa also made a highlight play off a steal he created from helping a teammate on a defensive trap. He collected the ball, dribbled left, spun left and hit a contested jumper with hands from two separate defenders draped on him at the same time.
John Jeanisse – Trivium Prep made a play that I couldn’t tell if it was on purpose or not, but was special nonetheless. Jeanisse was fouled dribbling on the right part of the baseline. He was bumped on the left shoulder and threw up a no-look hook shot with his right while falling the opposite way of the hoop that somehow slipped in for an and-one.
Riley Fornerette – Dysart played fast in all the games he was a part of, but stood out in the first contest of the event while everybody was still seemingly getting comfortable. He put up an and-one finish with his right hand on an up-and-under lay up falling away that got his bench hyped and propelled it to an opening win.
