The Texas GASO Fall Classic provided that opportunity this past weekend for Houston and surrounding area high school teams. Let’s take a look at how some of the 2020 prospects performed.
RJ Crawford
- 6’5 Guard
- Langham Creek High School
- Class of 2020
A Big Guard That Can Play Multiple Positions
Crawford’s versatility was definitely on display at the GASO Fall Classic. RJ played well on and off of the ball in addition to playing on the perimeter as well as in the paint. The luxury of having a guard like RJ is that he can run the point for you or play as a stretch four. His jumper was on point this weekend and he was able to attack the paint and make a ton of plays for his team.
Melvin Holloway
- 5’9 Point guard
- St Thomas Episcopal High School
- Class of 2020
Ultra Quick, Fast, Elite Shooter & Playmaker
All words that describe Melvin Holloway. I have grown accustomed to him shooting the ball well from three point territory, but this weekend he mixed it up a bit. He was able to use his speed and quickness to get into the teeth of the defense often. Consequently, he got some easy lay ups when he could or he kicked it out to teammates for wide open looks. And oh yeah, he shot the ball well from deep as usual.
Lonzo Rand
- 6’2 Guard
- Westfield High School
- Class of 2020
Lonzo – Mr. Do It All
On any given night Lonzo can produce 25+ points. However, he is still capable of producing a double digit assist or rebound game as well. This weekend his on-ball perimeter defense was stifling as usual. Consequently, his team found themselves on the break a lot. In their half court sets, Lonzo found different ways to score the ball. Inside, outside, mid range, dribble-drive, it was all on display this weekend. He is fundamentally sound with the ball in his hand which makes him a constant threat.
Jayshon Cannon
- 6’8 Forward
- Aldine Davis High School
- Class of 2020
Growing By The Day
Jayshon’s game has grown leaps and bounds since the first time I saw him play. And he used the Texas GASO Fall Classic to show his improvement and open up some eyes. His footwork was great down low, specifically with his back to the basket. In addition, he shot the ball well from 15 – 18 feet which stretched the floor for his team. Defensively, he moved well in traffic, was a strong rebounder, read offenses well and recorded a number of blocks. His help defense was tremendous.
Daylan Hamilton
- 6’2 Guard
- Klein Forest High School
- Class of 2020
A Star In The Making
With two of last year’s best players in the city leaving for college, Daylan is proving that he was just as important in Klein Forest’s deep playoff run. This weekend he ran the team well with the ball in his hand. Moreover, he shot the ball well from all of his spots. He was impressive defensively as he matched up with the “man child” KJ Adams, and didn’t budge nor back down. He is a strong and athletic guard which allowed him to get to the rim and finish in traffic. Add that to an already impressive shooting performance which helped him have a really good weekend at eh Texas GASO Fall Classic.
Davon Wright
- 6’5 Guard
- Cy-Springs High School
- Class of 2020
Bucket. Getter. Period.
Davon can absolutely score the ball. With his size, he normally can shoot over defenders and he can adjust his body to score in traffic. This weekend he focused more on getting his young teammates involved and comfortable within the offense. This aspect of his game is underrated. Davon has good vision and can pass the ball well. Davon is an artist on offense whether he is passing or scoring. This was all on display as he knocked down the long ball, was efficient from mid range and finished at the bucket. He was creative all weekend finding space to get his shot off or space to make tough passes. Defensively, he continued to show improvement, particularly on the perimeter.
