Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.
20-Max Bullinger, 6’3, 2020, Bishop Carroll Catholic, Kansas MTXE 17U
Bullinger plays fast and loose. He rebounds on one end then knocks down shots at the other. He does a bit of everything on the floor and can fill out a stat sheet if he wants to. He moves well around screens and goes back door and runs the baseline, stepping in the paint and then out.
20 — Sam Derning, 6’3, G, 2021, KS, United Basketball*
Also a football standout, Derning is a strong athlete who can do a lot on the floor. Derning is a solid all-around guard with good size at 6’3 and a well-rounded skill set. He is a dual-threat player and has a high basketball IQ and shows in-game smarts and leadership.
16 — Alyus Wisdom, 6’3, G, 2020, Free State, Primetime Ballerz
A breakout performer this summer who brings a solid combination of skill, size and all-around hustle to the floor. He is smart with the ball and has good handles and the ability to get shots off in the mid-range. He looks for those shots and defenders aren’t used to it. Wisdom is a strong player who is expected to play well this upcoming season.
5-Peyton Weixelman, 6’0, G, 2020, Manhattan, SSA Elite Black
Weixelman is a smart player with the ball who can put up shots with a hand in his face. He connected early in his games Saturday as he was constantly moving and attacking and was given several looks because of it. He handles the ball well and played strong defense on the Kansas Hoggs’ primary ball handler.
3 — Alton Easley Jr., 6’0, G, 2020, Washington, Primetime Ballerz
Easley has a solid game that and can do more for his size than meets the eye. He can rebound, defend the ball at a high level and switch out and defend some inside. He is also a good ball handler and can avoid problem areas and find openings and go inside to score. A nice backcourt player.
