Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.
14 — Aidan Shaw, 6’7, G/F, 2022, Blue Valley, MoKan Elite 2022
An elite player who has terrific size and upside. He can get to the basket well and shows glimpses of a player who is extremely difficult to stop when he gets going. He is terrific on the move and can get around the basket and finish against anyone. He runs the lanes and knows how to get open looks and easy buckets.
33 —Nahcs Wahwassuck, 6’3, G/F, 2022, Royal Valley, SSA Elite Black 15U
An athletic wing who can fly around the floor. He has good speed in open space and has a smart and timely first step with the ball. He has nice handles and can put the ball on the floor and force his way inside and score. He has a nice jumper and plays above the rim in transition.
13 — Jaoao Ramirez, 6’6, G/F, 2022, Bishop Seabury, KC Run GMC @jujuramirez14
A rising prospect out of Lawrence, Kansas’ Bishop Seabury, Jaoao “JuJu” Ramirez recently picked up his first offer from Division I program Denver University. Blessed with terrific size, Ramirez has a diverse skill set and is a prototypical modern wing player, able to shoot the 3 with a smooth left handed shooting stroke, can put the ball on the floor and defend multiple positions.
1 — Damar’e Smith, PG, 2022, Shawnee Mission Northwest, KC Run GMC 15U
Blessed with elite speed and quickness, Smith is a tough match-up for opponents as they struggle to keep the talented guard in front of them. He is a dynamic ball handler with the ability to get past defenders and to the basket. Mix in good floor general skills and the ability to shoot from distance, well beyond the 3-point arc, and Smith is among the state’s top young guards.
1 —Trey Maola, 6’5, F, Paola, Team Yobo 15U
A solid player with great hands and a good feel for inside-out play. He’s a mobile big and takes advantage of open lanes and his ability to pick up his dribble and finish. Maola has a nice upside and shows potential as a power forward. He can stretch the floor if he needs to and mixes things up on both ends, but he will always get a bucket.
