202 high school prospects (2020-2023) competed at a high level at Daytona Mainland where 20 plus college coaches, 15 plus media companies and a plethora of parents and family taking in the action.
We will have coverage all week long about the event.
Here is a look at the second standouts list for the 2022-2023 classes.
ICYMI: Part 1
Jose Amat III (Florida Christian)
Transferring over from Westwood Christain to Florida Christian, 2022 5’9″ guard Jose Amat III can flat out shoot. A natural born jump shooter, he gets up shots in a hurry and he was doing just that in Daytona. Speedy feet help Amat III ease down the floor and he can mix it up with bigger framed players because of it. He certainly needs to add muscle, but there is no denying his scoring ability from deep and the mid-range spot.
Rasheed Baldwin (Timber Creek)
It is hard not to like the potential that comes with 2022 6’4″ guard Rasheed Baldwin. He’s both long and determined which helps him when he attacks downhill. Baldwin is a finesse player, who likes to shoot from inside the circle. If he continues to get stronger and get into the paint, he will be a problem for defenses. He impressed me the few times I watched him on the day.
Trey Lane (Lakeland)
Over in Lakeland, 2022 6’1″ guard Trey Lane has made a name for himself already as a knockdown shooter. Maturing as a creator and passer, he can certainly hold his own defensively and makes the most of his moves to the rim with his strong upper body. Lane is in for an increased role this fall for the Dreadnaughts and I can certainly see him averaging double-digit points due to his keen ability to make jumpers.
Demarion Valmyr (Fleming Island)
A state Final Four team from a season ago, Fleming Island has a good one in 2022 6’5″ forward Demarion Valmyr. He will get a chance to be a major factor for his team due to his scrapping ability and willingness to fight on the boards. Far from done growing, Valmyr was very good for much of the Expo and I thoroughly enjoyed watching his energy and effort level.
Blaise Wallace (Maclay School)
Another lengthy athlete that stood out often was 2022 6’5″ Maclay forward Blaise Wallace. A football player, track and field standout and a basketball player at the Tallahassee program, he was using his mix of speed and size to his advantage. Wallace can breeze by defenders and quite frankly was too much for opposing teams at times. Look for Wallace to grow up quickly on the court for Maclay this season.
