San Diego Summer Report – Most Improved
Jalai O’Keith, 6-5 1/2 2020 W, Foothills Christian
O’Keith has blossomed over the spring and summer into a potential D1 wing. A jack of all trades who impacts the game on both ends, O’Keith has become a consistent shooting threat from midrange and deep. Expect him to have a breakout season for the Knights.
Kobe Sanders, 6-7 2020 SG, Christian/ Gamepoint
Sanders parlayed a strong showing at the Section 7 Team Camp into a trio of D1 offers. A major growth spurt pushed Sanders onto the D1 radar, and his blossoming ball skills kept him there. Sanders will sign with Cal Poly in the fall after committing in August.
Dexter Stratton, 6-8 2021 F, Mater Dei Catholic/ West Coast Elite
San Diego’s 2021 class lost one of its more promising forward prospects when CJ McMillan transferred to Capital Christian. But Stratton, a 6-8 — and growing — face-up four appears to be next up to fill the void. He’s improved rebounding and plays harder on defense to complement a nice offensive package.
Jake Woldman, 6-5 2021 W, St. Augustine
Woldman, who played junior varsity for Saints, appears poised to play an expanded role on the varsity level this season. Growing to 6-5, Woldman is as accurate a catch-and-shoot threat as you’ll find in SD, regardless of class. Watch out for this late blooming wing.
Nate Witte, 6-0 2021 PG, Torrey Pines/ West Coast Flight
Playing this summer for West Coast Flight 16u, Witte grew in confidence as a playmaker and scorer at the point. That confidence was evident during June, when he paired with Chris Howell in Torrey Pines’ new look back court, and took pressure off of Howell as a secondary ball handler. A growth spurt has pushed him over 6 feet, and improved athleticism has opened up his game around the basket.
Max McCall, 6-3 2022 G, San Marcos/ California Select
McCall is going to be thrust into a key role for the Knights after the departure of Chris Howell and Elijah Randall. If his play during the summer, both in club and for the high school, are any indication, he’ll make the transition smoothly. McCall has rapidly improved his handle and scoring, complementing his prowess as an on-ball defender and rebounder.
