NORWALK, Ca.—One of the best events of the Fall evaluation period is the Ron Massey Fall Hoops Classic, directed by Dinos Trigonis. Ron Massey, who coached at Long Beach Jordan High School, captured CIF Southern Section titles and mentored a plethora of student athletes during his tenure. If he were still pacing the sidelines to day, I’m sure he would be marveling at the dynamic talents of 7-foot senior Evan Mobley—who literally exhibited in every which way why he is considered the No. 1 prospect in the national class of 2020.
Jaden Hardy (Coronado/NV)
2021, CG, 6-foot-4, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Hardy put on an electrifying performance against Mater Dei as he scored in a variety of ways. He can pull-up off the dribble and convert jump shots out to 23-feet and his release is tight. He can get to the rim utilizing his quick crossove and ability to take contact and finish. His facilitating has improved, but he didn’t seem as explosive as he was during the summer.
Zaon Collins (Bishop Gorman/NV)
2021, PG, 6-foot, 160 pounds

The ever-improving point guard is sensational in the open court with his pin-point passes and nifty finishes at the rim. His jump shot is on the come, but it needs to get more consistent. His impact on the game at both ends equates to “straight winner.”
Houstan Mallette (Pacifica Christian)
2021, PG, 6-foot-3, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: This was my first look at Mallette and I came away impressed. He has the length, ball skills, and savvy to be a Division 1 point guard. He can stroke the 3-ball, snap passes to open shooters, and he is active on the defensive end. He needs to add strength to play through contact (got separated from ball after contact) and improve his decision making (forces the issues in the paint at times). However, overall he is a nice prospect.
Max Allen (Bishop Gorman/NV)
2021, C, 6-foot-6, 250 pounds
Joel’s Take: The big-bodied 5-man knows how to play in the paint. He carves out space with ease, has soft hands, and an exceptional touch from inside-and-out. He needs to get in better shape to improve his stamina and bounce, but he does have good feet and he’s a productive scorer via the drop step and 3-point shot.
Wilhelm Bridenbach (Mater Dei)
2021, PF, 6-foot-8, 220 pounds
Joel’s Take: One of the more unique prospects in So-Cal is Bridenbach. The ambidextrous 4-man has a feathery touch from 3, can score with either hand, and his passing acumen is impressive. This high IQ power forward is a physical player who excels with skill, savvy, and assertiveness at both ends.
