The athletic 6-foot-5, 190-pound wing has picked up plenty of interest – including his first Division I offer – and has started making official visits to college campuses. So while truth be told Goracke really didn’t need to play in the PrepHoops Oregon Top 250 Expo, he decided to use his free weekend to come up to Portland and play – and to no one’s surprise, he dominated.
“I just thought it would be a fun experience to play with my friends and compete,” Goracke said. “I haven’t played in games in awhile since it’s the off-season so it was good to get up and down.”
Goracke certainly lived up to his reputation at the event as he was flat out unstoppable on offense, whether it was taking it strong to the hole and finishing with the flush or knocking down long range threes. Once thought of as having perhaps a suspect motor, he’s changed the narrative – the truth of the matter is Goracke makes things look so effortless with his athleticism and agility and those qualities were definitely on display all day long.
The Expo comes during a weekend where Goracke had some free time as he’s been very busy with his recruitment. Last weekend he went on his first official visit to Point Loma Nazarene and it was well worth the time. “It was a great trip,” Goracke said. “The coaches definitely made me feel wanted and the players did too. Overall it was a really good trip.”
Goracke certainly isn’t finished. This Saturday, he and his family host Northwest Nazarene for a home visit. Then the next three weekends are booked and the calendar looks like this: 10/5 – Navy. 10/12 Missouri-Kansas City (his first D-I offer). 10/19 Biola. From East to the Midwest back to the West Coast, Goracke plans on getting a feel for all three.
“I’ve got a busy October,” Goracke said. “I just want to get out and meet all the coaches and try to get the best feel for the type of person that they are. Obviously I’ll be spending most of the next four years with those people so I want to make sure it’s a good fit. I think that after my visits I’ll be able to make a good decision.”
Goracke had previously said that he would likely wait things out until the spring before making a commitment. Have things changed in that regard? “I don’t know yet,” Goracke said. “I’m thinking it will be a little easier now than I first intended as I said that I would have a top list by Christmas-time, but it will probably be sooner that that.”
