Aiden Clark is hoping to make some waves for sure. The solid 6-foot-9, 200-pound post fought through injury and some other things the past few months as he’s still looking to increase his college recruitment but it was overall a summer he learned a lot from.
“Team Fly went really good and having Kendall (White) as a coach, he’s been my favorite AAU coach and he taught me a lot,” Clark said. “Tournament-wise and as a team I felt that we held our own most of the time. I didn’t do as good this AAU season as I would have liked, but I think a lot of that was based on how my role changed. I didn’t get to post up or shoot as many shots as it was a different role than I’m used to, but it was definitely a role that I needed to have in order for our team to do the best.”
Clark noted that he largely played up in the elbow area and set a lot of screens to get shooters open. While offensively he may not have done as much as in the past, the impact of the state’s leading shot-blocker last season remained on the other side of the ball.
“On the defensive side, I was in charge of making sure that baskets were being contested and running with (the other team’s) big guy,” Clark said. “It’s key for me as a player to get blocked shots and I was glad to be able to bring that to the team.”
On the recruiting front, Clark noted that the two schools he’s heard the most from are Chaminade and Portland. He’s open to hearing from more colleges at all levels and is staying patient with the process. “Time will tell as we still have this high school season,” Clark said. “I plan on coming out with a vengeance and really try to prove myself.”
A good showing at the PrepHoops Top 250 Showcase will help jump start things before he embarks on his senior year, one in which he feels the team has prepared for. “For summer ball it was more getting the younger guys used to playing at the varsity level and knowing what their roles will have to be for this upcoming season,” Clark said. “I think that everyone on the team is working hard to get better and improve.”
