Tanner had a really solid showing with Washington Supreme on the Under Armour Circuit throughout the club season and saw his recruitment take leaps and bounds. The former Junior Varsity/C-Team basketball player at Union now holds multiple Division 1 offers and has legitimized himself as a D1 prospect in multiple settings. College coaches all along the west coast were asking me about Toolson at the first annual WIBCA NCAA viewing event in June. He scored at all three levels and had some eye popping dunks in the half court and in transition as well. One of the schools that was instantly impressed with Toolson was Utah Valley, where Mark Madsen sat front row to watch the younger brother of former Utah Valley players Conner and Jake Toolson. Utah Valley would go on to offer Tanner and become one of multiple schools actively recruiting him. I recently caught up with Tanner to see how the recruitment process is coming along and when he plans to make a decision.
“My recruitment process went well this summer, but has slowed down since August. A few schools have texted and called since,” Tanner mentioned to Prep Hoops. Utah Valley was the first school to come in with an offer and Portland also offered not too long after. Both programs had a staff member present at the WIBCA event in Bellevue as well. Tanner added, “I am looking for the best high caliber college team possible, but also balancing that with a college that will fit best with my ability and playing style.” As of right now, Tanner has no target date for making a decision and says he has already visited Portland and plans to visit Utah Valley at the conclusion of the high school season. One final important piece to Tanner’s recruitment is he will be serving a 2-year church mission right out of high school, therefore making him a 2022 basketball recruit.
