Lamin played with Shadow Mountain last winter, a team that went 26-3 and was led by Jaelen House (at Arizona State), Jovan Blacksher (Grand Canyon), Jalen Williams (Nevada football), and 2022 standout Devenotes Cobbs. Lamin was a five and five guy for this stacked team.
“Going out west it’s super hot, but besides that (playing at Shadow Mountain) showed me how to take care of myself, being responsible and making sure I get my school work done,” Lamin said. “It was fun playing for a top five high school team, getting faster and getting in better shape. Just playing on a higher level.”
Lamin recently made the decision to transfer to the other side of the country for a post-graduate year.
“I’m reclassifying to the class of 2020 and will attend CBA prep in North Carolina,” Malik explained. “It’s going to be great still playing at a high level playing against Oak Hill, Huntington Prep, and IMG Academy.”
CBA Prep is the Carolina Basketball Academy. Lamin has offers from Hampton and Central Michigan plus this fall Malik plans to have several colleges in the gym to see him work out/play.
“In September all of the following schools are coming to watch a practice: St. Johns, Florida State, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Oregon, Villanova, Syracuse, Seton Hall, N.C. State, and Wake Forest. Those are the schools so far in contact.”
Lamin has not taken any visits as of late but he did go to East Carolina’s camp recently.
“No visits set but went to the ECU elite camp,” Malik said. “It was nice and they are definitely on the come up in the American division. New coach new players.”
Off the court Malik surely misses his Twin Cities home. The experience traveling to different parts of the country has been great though.
“Minnesota is home, I especially (miss) seeing my dad everyday,” Malik said. “I came back for a week after a year and a lot changed. I saw my friends since I was little and catching up was great.
“I understand to turn my dreams into reality I have to do things people just don’t want to do. Giving up everything to gain what I want.
“It was nice going from somewhere always cold with snow to going somewhere always hot with no snow. It was a nice experience meeting new people and friends that will last a life time.”
