Recruiting Report: Jake Koverman (2021)
Given the depth of high-level talent scattered throughout this region, its important for local prospects to attend showcases where they can compete against their peers to show what they can do in front of scouts and media alike. Over the years, Southern High School in Anne Arundel County has been known for having division one talent, and 2021 wing Jake Koverman looks like he will be next up. Koverman, a 6-foot-5 wing, took advantage of a camp setting earlier this month. He was named to the 2019 All-DMVelite 80 First Team as a result of his consistently strong performances throughout the day.
One of the areas in which he stood out was defensively. Koverman did a nice job disrupting his opponents with his length. He created several deflections and forced a handful of turnovers.
“I think I play really good defense,” Koverman said during a recent interview with Prep Hoops. “I’ll strap down anybody. I don’t care who.”
When he’s not locking down opponents on defense, Koverman is often seen handing out buckets on the offensive end. He’s an efficient scorer who can spot up and knock down threes or pull-up off one or two dribbles from the mid range. Koverman is also a good athlete who likes to attack the rim and finish in traffic.
“I’m working on getting to the rack and playing better defense like always,” he stated.
High Point, Radford, and Cal U (PA) are some of the schools who have already had Koverman on campus. He’s also received interest from schools like Boston College, UMBC, IUPUI and Idaho State.
“My goals are get to college, play ball, and have a good career.” Koverman said.
Jake Koverman is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-60 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2021 class, click here.
