The scholarship offer numbers for Jacob Jennissen aren’t massive, but the offers Jacob has are impressive. And, Jacob’s ability is growing by the day. Northern Iowa and Colorado State have been recruiting Jacob for a long period of time and if they land the Sauk Centre center they may have a high major talent in their frontcourt. Jacob is that good of a prospect.
“I’m hearing the most from Northern Iowa, Colorado State, and Virginia Tech,” Jennissen said. “I have an official visit to Colorado State this weekend Friday-Sunday.
“I’m looking for a program that has a winning culture and great teammates.”
Jennissen is coming off a 17u year where he earned occasional nicknames of “putback monster”, “active bucket seeker” and “most improved center in Minnesota in years”. Yes Jacob is that good. Minnesota was in contact for some time as well but Jacob mentioned, “I have heard from Minnesota somewhat but (they) haven’t followed up like other programs.” But the fact that Minnesota started to show interest is another indicator that Jennissen is better than people understand.
When schools can get out and see prospects next week it will be interesting to see who travels to Sauk Centre to see Jennissen because we believe that they if schools make the 90 minute drive from the airport to Jacob’s high school they will not be disappointed.
Jennissen was a key factor in the Minnesota Matrix going 36-9 this year. That said, it took Jennissen a little bit of time before he became that consistent 16 point/8 rebound a game player that had many college coaches and media members watching stating “this could be the biggest surprise recruit in the Midwest!”
“Towards the middle of the season there was a moment I was able to realize with help from my coaches that I was being too timid and selfless and it wasn’t helping us win,” Jacob said. “Once I started taking more shots and being more aggressive on defense my confidence level started to increase and with that confidence I was able to improve my game tremendously.”
And with that came strong event finishes for the Matrix.
With Jennissen what’s not to love? He is one of the most aggressive offensive rebounding centers I’ve seen in a long time, his face up touch is high percentage, his shoulder turn in the post is about as quick as you will see from a guy his size that’s not on 2020 and 2021 NBA draft boards right now, and the low post game has come a long way.
Virginia Tech, Colorado State, Northern Iowa, those are smart schools. Others should join that list, before it’s too late.
Jacob Jennissen had a monster spring/summer on the @PHCircuit landing a handful of D1 offers including Milwaukee, Northern Iowa, and Drake! @jacob_jennissen
