Van Dam, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, averaged better than 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks per game as a junior. He spent the grassroots season playing with ECI, where he had a chance to play against elite competition all summer.
“It was a great time; I love playing with those guys,” said Van Dam. “It’s very valuable for me to get a sense of what I need to work on moving forward.”
Van Dam is an anchor for the Eagles on the defensive end of the floor, as he’s one of the best defenders in the state. His length and leaping ability make him a terror to score over while he’s got the quickness and range to defend on the perimeter and the paint equally well.
“I take great pride in my defense,” said Van Dam. “I believe it often turns into offense for me too.”
The next step for Van Dam is to do all those extra things in a more prominent role.
“I think I’ll have to be in more of a leader role this year,” Van Dam said. “Carrying a bigger load and contributing more to winning.”
Van Dam’s an intriguing college prospect because of his length, athleticism and versatile skillset. He’s a true utility type player who can impact the game in a variety of ways and has the ability to be a solid player at the next level.
“I’ve talked to a few schools but I think I will play out this season and see what happens,” Van Dam said.
