While 3 of our top 7 ranked Seniors have committed, there are several others with D1 offers who have an important decision to make before graduation. Here are my guesses on where each of our 2020 players with D1 offers will land. The order is just based on where they are in the current 2020 Class Rankings.
Already Committed:
Justin Powell (North Oldham) – Auburn
Dayvion McKnight (Collins) – Western Kentucky
Marcellus Vail (Collins) – Samford
Jackson Sivills (McCracken County)
- OVC: Belmont, Murray State, Jacksonville State, UT Martin
- ASUN: Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty, Lipscomb
- Southern: Wofford, Samford, Furman
- A10: Saint Louis
- CUSA: Rice
- MAC: Kent State, Western Michigan, Ball State, Toledo
- Horizon: Northern Kentucky
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Furman. Jackson has already taken official visits to Furman, Wofford and Florida Gulf Coast. He’ll go to Murray State and Vanderbilt to round out his visits before deciding soon and signing this fall. At this time, Sivills hasn’t reported an offer from Vanderbilt. If they offer, I think he’ll pull the trigger and go there. Otherwise, my gut says Furman or Wofford and I think he wears the Purple of the Paladins for 4 years.
JJ Traynor (Bardstown)
- American: Cincinnati
- CUSA: Western Kentucky
- Horizon: Northern Kentucky
- MAC: Akron, Ball State
- MVC: Evansville
- OVC: Murray State
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Western Kentucky. The Toppers were the first D1 school to offer JJ. They have been recruiting him the longest and the hardest out of all his suitors. Kentucky and Louisville and other Power 5 schools have been out to see Traynor lately but he’s wanting to commit and sign in the fall period so I’ll put my money on Coach Stansbury and the Toppers.
Kenny White (Madisonville – North Hopkins)
- OVC: Morehead State, Southeast Missouri State, UT Martin
- Southern: Samford, Wofford
- MVC: Evansville
- Horizon: Cleveland State
- MAC: Kent State
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Cleveland State. While the Vikings are also his latest offer, White will have a chance to play right away if he makes the commitment to new Coach Dennis Gates. With kenny’s size and skill set, he could be a day one starter in the Horizon League.
Marques Warrick (Henry Clay)
- ASUN: NJIT, Bellarmine
- Horizon: Northern Kentucky, Valparaiso, IUPUI
- OVC: Eastern Kentucky
- MAC: Kent State
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Northern Kentucky. Ques has already taken visits to NKU, EKU and NJIT. I don’t see him going far from home but I do think he will get to see the floor as a freshman wherever he goes for college. Anyone who has seen NKU’s facilities has to come away impressed and the enthusiasm surrounding new Coach Darrin Horn and his track record for developing players cannot be ignored. I’ll pick the black and gold for Marques.
Howard Fleming (Male)
- Horizon: Northern Kentucky
- OVC: Austin Peay, Illinois State, Jacksonville State, Murray State, Eastern Kentucky
- MVC: Missouri State
- SWAC: Southern
- MAC: Kent State
- Conference USA: Florida International
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Murray State. Looking for a good comparison for Howard Fleming? I honestly think he can be Ja Morant 2.0. He is a big guard and very skilled while being super athletic. I will not be surprised if Howard waits until the Spring to see if the Power 5 schools come calling but if I have to pick a school for Fleming right now, I’m taking the Racers.
Ksuan Casey (Madisonville-North Hopkins)
- MVC: Evansville
- OVC: Morehead State
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Morehead State. I’ll take the Eagles BUT I do feel like Ksuan will end up going to a prep school and reclassifying to the 2021 class. He’s young (he’s barely 17 now) and a prep year could be exactly what he needs to get to the Power 5 level. He’s got the size, skill and agility but sometimes lacks the motor. He reminds me of former state champion Justin Miller. Miller used a prep year to add several offers and be an All-League type player. So, if he commits now, he’s going to Morehead or signing somewhere in the spring who offers late.
Cody Potter (Shelby Valley)
- OVC: Eastern Kentucky
Crystall Ball Prediction:
EKU or Pikeville. College offers are often a numbers game. There is a chance the EKU offer may not be there when signing day comes. Pikeville is probably the best fit for Cody if you disregard level and look at fit (which more people should do). Sometimes an offer from a coach like Kelly Wells means more to a kid from the mountains than just about any other offer could. Potter will be fine wherever he goes, but I won’t be surprised if he commits to the Bears when signing day comes.
Alex Matthews (John Hardin)
- Horizon: Illinois-Chicago
- Colonial: Hofstra
- Sun Belt: Coastal Carolina
Crystal Ball Prediction:
Coastal Carolina. Of all my choices, this is probably my least confident and really just a shot in the dark. Alex’s recruitment has been very quiet so I’ll go with the first school who offered him back in the spring time. When in doubt, go with the school who has spent the most time building that relationship. So I take the Chanticleers.
Hopefully we will see more Kentuckians get D1 offers before signing day rolls around!
