This camp was LOADED with future small college standouts from around southern Illinois and beyond. Here we break down the prospects that we evaluated at the event!
Luke LeQuatte (Herrin – 2020)
Continued to be intrigued with the potential and growth of this 2020 small forward. He impressed when we saw him a month ago and was extremely good in drill work once again. Smooth and effortless jump shot. Likes to shoot it from the baseline and is starting to be more active around the hoop on put backs and quick moves on the block.
Andrew Schwarting (Saxony Lutheran, MO – 2020)
Good sized and broad shouldered 6’6” power forward from the state of Missouri. The senior has a high release point on his jumper. Should have a productive senior campaign this year if he plays like he did Sunday.
Blake McKay (Woodlawn – 2020)
McKay can really score the basketball. The combo guard at 6’2” will be one of the top small school scorers in southern Illinois this upcoming season. He is a crisp ball handler that gets where he needs on the floor to operate and get his shot off. Not the most athletic kid, but he makes precise moves to do damage with his skill!
Austin Garbe (Carterville – 2020)
Garbe is such a tough and competitive wing that always brings the production component! The 6’2” two guard has great strength and can shoot it. Like what he does as a pull up shooter stopping and popping. Tough around the hoop. Great guy for a D3!
Alex Yardley (Mattoon – 2020)
Yardley is a 6’6” power forward with some projectability. Broad shoulders and has a frame that once he hits a college weight program he could become a strong four man. Decent feel although the moves can be a bit slow at times. Runs the floor. Can hit a jumper on occasion. Liked how he passed the ball out of the post. Sleeper post with developmental upside!
Marquel Brumfield (Metea Valley – 2020)
Brumfield was a pleasant surprise to see make the trip down from northern Illinois. He was an impact player for the Illinois T-Wolves on the PrepHoops Circuit this spring/summer. Once again he was very good. Power two guard that is a high level rebounder! One of the better rebounding guards in the class. He can also attack downhill with force and is a capable mid-range shooter.
Joseph Brumleve (Cobden – 2020)
This Cobden power forward might not be the most projectable kid, but wow was he impressive with his consistent production all day! The 6’5” power forward is a strong and broad shouldered post that used hook shots with both hands for scores. He was active on the glass. High/low seals. Physical kid that can hit an occasional mid-range jumper.
Carson Parker (Nashville – 2020)
Parker was probably the top prospect at the event. The McKendree commit checks in at #40 overall in the 2020 class. Good sized wing with strength. Smooth and effortless shot. Likes to sneak in to get offensive rebound put backs.
Tristen Hercules (Nashville – 2020)
Hercules is a nice passing point guard that makes sound decisions with the ball in his hands. Gets to the rim pretty consistently especially in transition. Look for him to be a force for Nashville this year.
Dawson Yates (Pinckneyville – 2020)
The 6’2” shooting guard was very active defensively. He used his length to get in passing lanes and taking them the other way for scores.
Jacob Schadegg (Breese Mater Dei – 2020)
Schadegg is another excellent small high school point guard that should find a home at the D3 level. He is a tough and skilled guard that is a shot maker!
Tyler Stokes (Marshall County, KY – 2020)
Stokes has nice size and strength at 6’6”. Good rebounder that also drilled a couple mid-range shots. Very efficient in everything that he did. Solid all-around combo forward!
Luke Ervie (Freeburg – 2020)
Ervie is a well-coached two guard that brings toughness and scoring punch to the table. Pushes in transition. Tough on straight line drives to the hoop. Physical taking it to the rim. Knocked in runners.
Trevor Roy (Neoga – 2020)
Roy put his name on the map with a strong day! The senior has some athletic pop and bounce which he displayed on drives. Combo guard is a decent passer and plays with flair.
Brandon Anthony (Herrin – 2020)
Anthony is a rangy 5’11” lefty point guard that is a slick ball handler with length. Pushed it in the open floor and got in the lane with his quickness and converted with runners. Like what he did throughout the day.
Nathan Hall (Collinsville – 2021)
Hall was one of the breakout players of the day. The 6’7” power forward was extremely active around the hoop all day long. Has the ability to face up and knock down a mid-range jumper. Ran the floor. Was a good rebounder in traffic and I liked what he did defensively blocking shots and overall using his length to be a tough post defender.
Dre Scott (Pinkneyville – 2021)
Scott is a junior wing with all the physical tools to project to the next level. At 6’4” and still growing he should be able to play and defend both wing spots at the college level. Athletically he definitely has it with the way he plays above the rim including throwing down a huge dunk on a guy. Potential as a mid-range pull up shooter especially once his release point becomes more consistent.
Noah Franklin (Cobden – 2021)
Franklin is a name that small colleges need to monitor early as he is going to make a program very happy down the line! What you have to like about this 6’6” forward is he can play multiple positions and beat you in a variety of ways. In many respects the lefty is a point-forward. Creates for others, can score off the bounce, and is a sound mid-range shooter. Got on the glass for put backs as well.
Landon Zurliene (Fairfield – 2021)
Zurliene was held out of scrimmages because he is in the middle of football season, but in the drills he once again proved to be one of the better wings in southern Illinois for his class. Clean looking jump shot that he was uber smooth knocking them down all over the floor in drills.
Joe Melton (NCOE – 2021)
Melton is one of the most intriguing power forward prospects in the junior class out of the 618. This 6’7” 190 pound four man is really starting to come into his own! Skilled player that hits shots from 15 feet with regularity. He is an excellent rebounder hitting the offensive glass for put backs over and over. Finished dump off passes. Rebounded well.
Cameron Brandmeyer (Wesclin – 2021)
This 6’4” forward is an active kid that can shoot it. Knocked down an array of threes particularly being effective from the wings.
Billy Braid (Herrin – 2021)
Braid is the third Herrin prospect that shined. The trio should make them contenders this season. Strong wing that is a very good shooter off the catch. Can knock down threes. Solid passer in both transition and half court. Slashed with toughness.
Eli Brown (Paducah Tilghman, KY – 2021)
Brown is a 6’2” shooting guard that flat out knocks in jumpers! The junior from Kentucky was lights out consistently drilling pull ups from mid-range and three. Clean and free release!
Brady Moore (Breese Central – 2022)
Moore is one of the more productive 2022 guards in the 618. Scoring two guard at 6’2” who is a crisp ball handler and gets to the rim pretty consistently where he makes tough layups. Improving shooter.
Justin King (Mascoutah – 2022)
King was the top young prospect in the house once again. Really like the upside with this long and rangy 6’1” point guard who will grow several more inches before his college days. Slippery through traffic with the ball weaving through the defense in both transition and the half court.
Wilson Lodge (Trico – 2022)
Lodge put his name on the map with a quality day. Solid finisher inside and has excellent size at 6’4” as only a sophomore.
Luke Light (Salem – 2022)
Light is a 6’4” forward that has some projectability. Caught our eye in the scrimmages with the way he shot it pulling up. Definitely needs to add strength going forward!
Grant Fridley (Wesclin – 2023)
Fridley is a young point guard that pushes the rock. Plays with good speed in the open floor.
Peyton Bittle (Carterville – 2023)
Bittle is a super tiny guard at only 5’4”, but he is tough and gritty. Actually shoots it pretty well.
Caden Hawkins (Carterville – 2023)
Hawkins will team up with Bittle to be the future backcourt for Carterville. This 5’8” guard has a high basketball IQ and makes sound decisions with the rock in his hands.
