The 6’5″ Richardson has been been a stat-sheet stuffer who excels in all facets of the game. He can get buckets, rebound, handle the ball and play solid defense. He does whatever it takes to help his team succeed and Hancock has won a lot of games during his career in South St. Louis County.
His overall game helped him get his first Division I offer from SEMO during the summer. He has also received interest from schools such as Drury, Jacksonville, Nebraska-Omaha, PIttsburg State, Morehead State and Texas Southern.
“When I got my first offer from SEMO, I was very excited,” he said. “It shows that my hard work doesn’t go unseen.”
As a junior, Richardson put together a terrific season in leading the Tigers to a Class 3 district championship. He averaged 21.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.4 steals while shooting 60 percent from the field in leading the Tigers to a 19-6 record.
“Last year was great and leading my team to a district championship was a great experience,” he said. “It what we’ve been working so hard for since I stepped into high school.”
In his first three seasons at Hancock, Richardson has scored 1,404 points and grabbed 737 rebounds while leading the Tigers to a 61-17 record, including that district championship. He has a chance to accomplish the rare feat of 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career.
“My goal is to get to 2,000 points, get All-Conference and Player of the Year in our conference and win another district championship,” he said. “Last, but not least, we want to go to state.”
Richardson spent the summer grassroots season playing with the Arsenal Hoops 17U team. He was a very productive player for a team that won a tournament championship and competed well throughout the country. Richardson was also selected to the Prep Hoops Missouri Grassroots All-State 17U team.
“My summer with Arsenal Hoops was a great experience,” he said. “We had a great group of guys and great coaches who gave us the freedom to play our game.”
