Going into his senior year at Fairfax High School, Hunter has experienced his fair shares of ups and downs. Despite the depth and number of players the Lions had at his position, he averaged 10 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals a game last year. While his scoring numbers aren’t eye popping, Hunter still contributed every second he was on the floor. “The best part of my game is my ability to lockdown and create shots for myself and others. Defensively I’m very versatile: I can guard the 1-4. I’m a team player and all about winning, I have no problem taking a back seat or doing whatever is best for the team. I bring toughness and a winning mentality to a team.”

While known as a defender and a glue guy, Hunter was able to showcase other parts of his game during the AAU season.
Justyn spent his summer with Coach Russell Payne’s Los Angeles Elite program where he illustrated the ability to shoot the ball from 3, and also attack the basket. In several games over the summer, Hunter had many double digit scoring outbursts and many more where he showed the ability to find open teammates. Justyn credits playing with LA Elite with giving him a chance to exhibit other parts of his game. “The LA Elite program is second to none. Everyone treated one another like family here, and they gave me multiple opportunities to prove myself.” adds Hunter.
Growing up in Los Angeles and starting basketball at the age of 5, Justyn has always had a dream of playing basketball and going to college. Justyn is “looking for a school that is competitive in both sports and academics.” He adds, “at the end of the day, I’m a student first. The college transition is something that I look forward to the most.” Colleges who take a chance on Justyn will be getting a student athlete who is mature and versatile on both the court and in the classroom. Hunter currently has a cumulative 3.5 GPA

This year will be a huge one for both Justyn and the Fairfax Lions. They lost Ethan Anderson, Robert McRae, Daylen Williams, and Ronald Mitchell to graduation and the team will look to depend on the new seniors. “I knew my role and that was to lockdown on defense and get others involved/This year I’ve been working to improve on every aspect of my game, especially being a leader.” says Justyn.
In addition to his bringing a leadership role, Hunter adds “I want to win every game possible. Another city ring, state ring, and I want everyone on the team to succeed. I want to be known as the best two way player around. There’s numerous of games that I can’t wait to play in, especially the Westchester game. However, we have to play every game like it’s our last time stepping on a court.”

Whether it’s at Fairfax, in the classroom, or off the court, it is evident that Justyn is mature beyond his years. Colleges who target Hunter will be getting a prospect who has a team first and win first mentality and will be a coaches dream. Hunter credits many people who have helped him develop into who he is today: “I have to give thanks to my family especially my mom and dad, Coach Mitchell at Bishop Montgomery, Coach Omar, along with the LA Elite family and all of the teammates.”
