A talented 6’5 guard who can play either guard spot, Lamkford can handle the ball, shoot with unlimited range and can get to the basket and draw fouls. He is a strong free throw shooter and plays a team-first brand of basketball.
Lankford didn’t play competitive travel basketball this offseason, preferring instead to focus on hitting the weight room and improving his athleticism.
“This past summer was really about hitting the weight room and the gym getting faster, stronger, jumping higher,” he says. “Playing this summer has not only prepared me physically but mentally for this season as well.”
Lankford says he spent a lot of time focusing on improving at the defensive end of the court, getting on the boards and improving his handle.
“I’m not a bad ball handler but I need to improve it a lot,” he said. “I have not thought about personal goals for the season, but ever since I arrived at Bishop Carroll, I’ve wanted to win a Wichita city league championship and state championship in the same year.”
Lankford says his dad has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“My biggest influence definitely has to be my dad,” Lankford said. “He’s the one who has trained me since 4th grade and made sure I always had motivation to work hard.”
A fan of Klay Thompson, Lankford says he appreciates his outside shooting abilities and all-around game.
“I really enjoy watching Klay Thompson because he has the purest shot in the game and can score sixty on only eleven dribbles.” Lankford said. “I think I’ve been able to implement Klay’s shooting and quick release to my game.”
