Pope burst onto the scene as a sophomore, when he averaged 21 points a game and made 89 3s at a 48.6% clip. His numbers took a bit of a hit last year, averaging 16.7 points with 64 made 3s (32.5%). With a lot of production gone from last year’s team, don’t be surprised to see him back up above 20 points a night, and he should keep the Trojans in the division race all year.
First Team
2020 Peyton Pope, West Marshall (16.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals, 64 3PM)
Pope finished third in the division in scoring last year, and led the division in made 3-pointers. He’s the leading returning scorer, and with lots of production gone from West Marshall, he should see his numbers spike again.
2020 Luke Starr, AGWSR (14.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals)
The 6-1 guard does a bit of everything for the Cougars, and if he can improve his efficiency (35.2 FG% last year), he could push Pope for the division’s scoring crown.
2020 Tyler Tscherter, Gladbrook-Reinbeck (14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.4 steals)
Perhaps the best stat-sheet stuffer in the division, Tscherter not only ranks third among returnees in scoring, he also ranks tops in assists, and second in steals.
2021 Dylan Riffey, Gladbrook-Reinbeck (12.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 55 3PM)
Riffey’s 55 made 3s rank second among returnees, and he’ll pair with Tscherter and Eli Thede to give the Rebels the best trio in the division.
2020 Mason Yantis, BCLUW (10.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 58.2 FG%)
BCLUW won just five games last year, but Yantis was productive in those wins, averaging 10.6 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. An efficient forward, he’s the division’s leading returning rebounder, and with a pair of double figure scorers gone, he should emerge as one of the go-to scoring options this year.
