Ollendieck is the only returning starter for the two-time defending champions. A long, versatile player on both ends of the floor, he uses that length to defend multiple positions, and he’s a knockdown shooter. He’s the most important player for the Tigers, who we have ranked #1 to open the year in 4A.
First Team
2020 Josh Ollendieck, Cedar Falls (10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals, 45.5 3P%)
With Logan Wolf graduated, Ollendieck should have the ball in his hands plenty this year for the Tigers, who have re-loaded and look like as good a bet as any to win it all in 4A again this year. A long, versatile guard, Ollendieck impacts the game on both ends of the floor in a major way.
2021 Chase Courbat, Cedar Falls (5.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 66.0 FG%)
A role player for the last few years, this could be the breakout year for this 6-9 big man. Courbat is already one of the best defensive big men in the state, and he could see his offensive numbers explode this year for the Tigers.
2020 Jake Beckmann, Xavier (12.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 52 3PM)
The 5-11 guard has no conscience, and can get red hot in a hurry for the Saints. With Quinn Schulte graduated, look for Beckmann’s assist numbers to improve this year while also being one of the team’s top scoring threats.
2020 Cooper Medinger, Dubuque Senior (6.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.0 steals, 61.5 FG%)
The 5-9 senior guard was the starting point guard for last year’s 4A runner-up, and his 117 assists are the most among returnees in the class. An efficient guard who knows where he excels, he’ll need to take on more of a scoring role this year for the Rams, who graduated their top five scorers from last year’s team.
2020 Davis Wagner, Xavier (10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 50.0 FG%)
This spot could also go to Wagner’s teammate, Jaylon Moses, who may actually be the most talented player in the division, but has yet to stay healthy and put a full season together. Wagner, a 6-2 slashing wing, excels when he’s playing downhill and should have a really strong senior year for the Saints.
