Preseason All-Conference: MAC
Preseason Player of the Year: 2020 Ty Anderson, North Scott
The future Northern Iowa forward is the best player on the league’s best team. Blessed with great length and athleticism, he runs the floor, rebounds at a high level, protects the rim and is one of the most versatile defenders in the state, with the ability to switch onto smaller guards without giving up much. He’s steadily improved his offensive skill set, and he should have a huge senior year for one of 4A’s best teams, helping lead the Lancers back to the top of the MAC.
First Team
2020 Ty Anderson, North Scott (13.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.2 blocks, 59.1 FG%)
The 6-6 forward is efficient and a dominant two-way player who should have a huge senior season on both ends of the floor for the Lancers. He ranks second among returnees in scoring, and tops in rebounding.
2020 Sean Peeters, Davenport Assumption (16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.5 steals, 55.4 FG%)
The league’s leading returning scorer, Peeters was highly effective despite playing through injuries last year. If he can stay healthy, he’s a dominant force who is always active on the glass on both ends of the floor.
2021 Emarion Ellis, Davenport Central (8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 steals)
Few players in the state had a better spring and summer than Ellis did with the Barnstormers, showcasing elite athleticism and scoring abilities. His efficiency was a question last year with the Blue Devils (35.1 FG%), but if he can improve that, he could be a nightmare for MAC teams.
2020 Kaiden Phillips, Davenport Central (10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.1 blocks)
You could make an argument for either Phillips or teammate John Miller (who briefly went to Rock Island, IL, but is back at Central now) for this spot, but we’ll give the edge to the lengthy, versatile and athletic 6-4 wing. He provides defensive versatility and led the Devils in blocks last year.
2021 Jayden Houston, Davenport North (10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals)
The 6-1 junior was fantastic on the glass last year, pulling down 84 offensive rebounds (77 defensive), showcasing his elite athleticism. He’ll pair with Quincy Wiseman to give the Wildcats loads of athleticism and length on the wing.
