The 6-6 forward stuffed the stat sheet for the Braves, leading the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks, while finishing second in assists and steals. With 99% of the team’s scoring back, this could be the surprise team to win the league, and Hurd would be the biggest reason why.
First Team
2020 Ryan Hurd, Cherokee (15.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists)
The leading returning scorer and rebounder in the league, Hurd is the key piece for a Cherokee team that could make the leap towards the top of the conference this year.
2022 Ty Van Essen, Western Christian (6.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 65.6 FG%)
Van Essen played in just eight varsity games last year for the Wolfpack, but the 6-5 sophomore forward was incredibly productive, shooting above 65% from the floor. With lots of production gone from one of 2A’s best programs, look for Van Essen to emerge as one of the league’s best players this year.
2022 Karter Petzenhauser, Spencer (14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals)
Petzenhauser was one of the most productive freshmen in the state last year, ranking fourth among all 2022s in scoring. He also finished second on the team in rebounding and assists. With the Tigers next three scorers from last year graduated, don’t be surprised to see Petzenhauser nearing the 20 point a game mark this winter.
2020 Dawson Feenstra, Western Christian (10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists)
The 6-2 guard really started to take off late last season and should see his scoring numbers skyrocket for a Western Christian team that lost three double figure scorers.
2021 Creighton Moricsh, Spirit Lake (10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 59 3PM)
Moricsh tied for the league lead in made 3-pointers last year with 59, and his 10.6 points a game ranked second on the team behind Division I big man Owen Coburn. A high-level shooter, he should be the go-to scorer this year for the Indians.
