Right now the overall view is this class is trending upwards with more names emerging each event we attend. Let’s look at some of them in PrepHoops Top 250: Scotty B’s 2021 Evals Part 2!
Tyler Van Eekeren (Benet – 2021)
Eekeren is going to emerge as a key piece for Benet this season. Really liked what he brought to the table over the summer for HIT. Skilled and versatile player that can impact in a variety of ways. Hits open shots, underrated passer, and improving defender.
Juvon Crawford (Westinghouse – 2021)
Rangy shooting guard that got after it on the defensive end. Liked the anticipation and activity level he brought on that end. Also hit a three from the wing.
Aidan Stephens (Downers Grove North – 2021)
This 6’3” wing opened our eyes with his play. Consistently knocked down threes along with pull up jumpers. Got in the lane for runners and was effective turning steals into points on the other end.
Jabari Scuefield (Perspectives – 2021)
Speaking of defenders that is what I liked about this guard. He got into his man defensively and made it hard for his opponent to operate.
Odin Lium (Oswego East – 2021)
Lium is one of the more intriguing wing prospects in the 2021 class. Like his combination of skill and size. Just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Was impressed with how he passed the ball. Had a sweet left handed pass in tight space in transition that led to a score. Also was effective finishing around the hoop with athleticism. Plays with such ease!
Amarion Fields (Solorio – 2021)
This point guard can play. At 5’10” he is a capable shooter as he connected from three including a nice one from the corner.
Mac Parmelee (Dunlap – 2021)
The Dunlap 6’3” junior can flat out shoot the basketball! He was straight money from three when we were watching drilling an array of them. Crisp shot mechanics. One to watch this season.
Grant Newell (Whitney Young – 2021)
Newell was the highest ranked 2021 prospect at the event. What the #11 prospect in the 2021 class brings to the table is his athleticism and quickness around the hoop. Gets on the glass and when he gets rolling can really score with fluidity. Plus athlete.
Cameron Rowe (Decatur Eisenhower – 2021)
Rowe is a rangy point guard that has quickness getting to the hoop. Part of a starting group of young guards for Eisenhower that are primed for big seasons.
Daniel Reed (Marist – 2021)
Reed recently made his debut in the 2021 rankings and was solid at PrepHoops Top 250 Camp. Like the toughness he brings from his guard spot and the ability to knock down mid-range jumpers.
Tony Vera (Joliet Catholic – 2021)
Shooting guard from Joliet Catholic looked fluid on the perimeter and had a nice three in a pick and roll situation.
Logan Talmage (Evanston – 2021)
This 6’6” big bodied post prospect has skill on the block. At times the moves are a bit slow, but you can definitely see the potential here. Quality passer on the interior. Should bring an interior presence to an always good Evanston squad!
Ryan Sucha (Lincoln Way East – 2021)
Sucha is a 6’5” small forward with a strong frame. He can stretch the floor with his three point shooting. Excellent spot up shooter from three. Also showed some more athletic pop than we had seen in the past.
Cyrus Little (United Township – 2021)
This small point guard is a solid shooter with range on his jumper. Should emerge this season as a quality scoring threat at the point.
Joshua Uju (Plainfield East – 2021)
Uju is a rangy and athletic two guard that brings quality length to the table on the defensive end. Two way prospect that will make an impact on both ends of the floor with his athleticism and energy level.
Jordan Hill (Solorio – 2021)
Hill is a point guard that opened our eyes with his play at Top 250. The junior played with a lot of confidence and knocked down shots with regularity from beyond the arc both off the catch and pulling up.
Gabe Calhoun (Dunlap – 2021)
Another quality Dunlap junior that will combine with Parmelee to form a quality backcourt the next two years. This 6’2” guard showcased some quickness from his two guard spot with his handles.
Garrett Burdin (Rochelle – 2021)
Liked the competitive spirit that Burdin brought to the table. Plays with a lot of flair for the game and is a crafty layup maker. Also a capable three point shooter that stretches the defense with his shot.
